Superintendent's Community Update
September 14, 2022
A Message from Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain, Ed.D.
Dear Newport Parents, Families, and Staff:
The excitement of the first few days back at school was electric. I hope we maintain some of that excitement as we settle in for the day in and day out of the full school year ahead.
Among the most important things you can do for your child is to create a routine and stay engaged in their learning. What does that mean? It means asking your child how their school day was, what classes they’re enjoying, what classes they’re having a tough time in, who their favorite teachers are, and who their school friends are. These simple questions can help you to gauge your student’s experience and identify any potential issues that may need to be addressed by talking with teachers and building principals.
Parent involvement also means getting to know your child’s teachers and principals. Fortunately, all of our schools – Pell Elementary, Thompson Middle School, and Rogers High School – have open houses and Town Hall meetings scheduled over the next two weeks (see schedule below). Please make attendance a top priority. Our teachers and principals want to meet and get to know you!
Finally, as happens every school year, we have experienced some minor school busing issues resulting in late pickups, arrivals, and dropoffs. As a reminder, our school bus schedule is featured below. These kinks will be worked out shortly as we adjust to new bus routes and schedules.
I hope everyone has a great week of learning. And remember, establish a school day routine and stay engaged in your student’s learning!
Sincerely,
Colleen Burns Jermain, Ed.D.

Sinceramente,
Colleen Burns Jermain, Ed.D.
Superintendente
