Too Happy...
“Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.”
-Franz Kafka
This time of year, youth may occasionally seem too happy...however, in that happiness comes a childlike energy, an exuberance that can be contagious if we let it. I write this as I reflect on dragging myself up to the high school past my bedtime to assist some of the senior members of our PHS youth engage in a harmless prank, and despite my fatigue I find myself energized with the memories of my own antics at their age. The senior prank in which I engaged was far less innocent and far less laborious; however, in it, my misguided friends and I must have seen some beauty because I remember us being very happy.
Regardless, as the school year winds down please take a moment in the coming weeks to reflect not on the minutiae in which we tend to bog ourselves down but in the beauty all around us that we tend to forget to see.
As we usher out another wonderful class of seniors and welcome in another group of soon-to-be freshmen, we are reminded of how the cycle of youthful exuberance will reset and repeat, and we all get to watch it unfold right in front of us.
