We all enjoyed finally having a full week back at school!! We loved reading again with our book buddies, reading our next book (Ish by Peter Reynolds) for the Global Read Aloud, and having our first Town Hall Meeting where Kyra, our class mayor, introduced our idea box and we picked a date for our next Show and Tell. It will be Friday, October 31! I hope you all have a great weekend!

What Did We Learn This Week?
Language Arts
Our spelling rule this week was ck/k and we learned that when a one syllable word is followed by a short vowel and the /k/ sound it ends in -ck. In grammar we learned about plural nouns and we took our Unit 4 vocabulary quiz as well. Also, we read a story called What Lives in a Shell. The skill we focused on was categorizing and classifying and we had fun sorting buttons by color, shape, size, number of wholes, etc. We began to write about our past lives. Thank you so much for all your help with this assignment! We also began our first two lessons in Writer's Workshop. We learned about how to come up with small moment ideas and were introduced to our small idea notebooks. We worked in groups to share our ideas and try to narrow them down to small moments. Also, we listened to a passage from the story Owl Moon to help us understand how to make our stories meaningful. Next week, we will focus more on developing stories from our small moments.
Math
In math this week, we learned about the three properties of addition: commutative, associative, and zero/identity. We practiced patterns in addition, too. Then, we reviewed basic addition without regrouping and practiced regrouping to the 10's place. We had a blast playing math basketball to practice this concept!
Social Studies
It was all about landforms and bodies of water this week! We learned many and found pictures of them on the internet and labeled them on a map of the world. We also had fun labeling and finding the definitions to different landform pictures.
Class Meeting/Tefillah
This week we received our prayer pamphlets to use during tefillah until we receive our siddurim!
Hebrew
Dear 2nd grade parents,
The Hebrew cursive letters ר (RESH) and ה (HEY) are very similar to the print style.
We practiced forming the pair, learned related vocabulary, read the story: אריה או יונה (ARYE O YONAH) and continued studying using our SHALOM book.
Please encourage your student to read at home for 10 minutes every day. Thanks!
