6th Grade Celebration
6th Grade Parents:
It’s hard to believe, but our 6th Grade Celebration is just a few days away! We are looking forward to celebrating on Tuesday, May 31st from 5:00-7:00pm. DJ Spicy Noodle will be providing music during the event! Outside, kids will be able to enjoy 9 Square and other recess activities. Inside, students can play Swamp Ball and jump in the Bounce Houses. Pizza, chips, and cake will also be provided for the students.
*Students must have socks to use the bounce houses.
Dropoff and Pickup:
Please Carpool! With the ongoing construction at Greene and close to 400 students attending the celebration, we will be EXTREMELY limited/congested with traffic flow and parking for student pickup. Thanks in advance for your patience. If possible, we would encourage students who live nearby to walk or ride their bikes to and from the event.
When arriving, we ask that you drop students off in the visitor/staff parking lot. You will enter off of Aldine and, when leaving, you MUST turn left on Aldine. There will be a staff member there to assist with the drop off process. Please refer to the arrows below. Please arrive no earlier than 5:00.
Please make sure to have your car tag hanging from your rearview mirror or the number on your dashboard. These numbers will be used to call students from the gym out to their cars. The pickup procedure will run in the same fashion as we conduct the daily school car rider pickup. You will enter off of Aldine, where your car number will be recorded. From there, we will fill rows of cars and students will be dismissed to their rows. When leaving, you MUST turn left on Aldine. Please refer to the diagram and arrows below. Please arrive no earlier than 6:55.
Supply List for Rising 6th Graders
Schedule Updates for Next School Year
Each student has a music bell. During the music bell students who take band, choir & orchestra classes will meet A-D days. Students who take 2 music classes will split time between the 2 classes during the A-D rotation. General music meets 2 days each A-D rotation and is paired with an additional day of STEAM and an additional day of PE. These classes (General Music, STEAM, and PE) are scheduled together, with no substitutions.
The second special bell is filled with Art, PE , Multimedia, and STEAM that each meet one day per A-D rotation.
Below you will see a sample schedule showing the new format.
Are you planning to move out of the district before next school year?
As we plan for the next school year, it is important for us to know how many pupils plan to attend Sycamore Schools.
If you know that you will be moving out of the Sycamore School District, or that your child will be attending a private or parochial school and will not be attending Sycamore Schools next Fall, please complete the form attached below and return it to the Greene School office by Tuesday, May 17th. You do not need to send in a form if your 6th grader is just moving up to the Sycamore Junior High as a 7th grader. If you plan to withdraw from Sycamore Schools, it is important that you notify the school office so that we may process records for your child’s new school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Transition to the Junior High
Hello Rising 7th grade families. Some of our Junior High students have put together a Virtual Presentation for the 6th grade students. This following link brings you to an interactive google slide presentation that includes a few Junior High tips and a video. We invite your student to click on the following link for a little preview!
As a reminder, the first day of 7th grade is a transition day for 7th grade students only. This is a day dedicated to helping students navigate the building, become comfortable with where their classes are located, meet their teachers, test their lockers, start learning routines, etc. We hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to meeting everyone next school year!

Free Meal Waivers Expire June 3, 2022
Sycamore Child Nutrition will return to pre-pandemic operations, which include charging for student meals, at the start of the 2022-23 school year.
For the past two years, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has offered waivers to Child Nutrition (CN) Programs across the United States, allowing these programs to offer all students breakfast and lunch, at no charge. These waivers will expire June 3 and will not be renewed for CN programs nationally.
Families who qualify for free and reduced meals based on the income of all family members will once again be asked to complete and submit a current school year Free and Reduced Meal Application. Please look for more information after July 1 when the application period opens.
Attention Registered Nurses
The Sycamore Community School District is currently looking for registered nurses who would like to be employed as substitute nurses. Applicants must have current nursing experience, preferably with children, special needs, diabetes and an active nursing license.
If you qualify and are interested, please call Julie Ferron, R.N. at 686-1743 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
