Kindergarten Registration
Dear Parents/Guardians:
We are excited to announce that Kindergarten registration for the 2019-2020 school year will begin January 14th. Kindergarten is an exciting and important year for students and their parents. We are anxious to meet your child and welcome him/her to school.
Children born between October 2, 2013, and October 1, 2014, are eligible to register for the 2019-2020 school year by following the procedures below.
The registration process, which consists of two steps, is as follows:
Step 1: Registration/Residency Verification through the Community School
The initial step of the process requires parents/guardians to go online to www.fairlawnschools.org/openreg and pre-register.
Please follow the directions at www.fairlawnschools.org/registration to determine what additional forms and documents are required during registration.
Registration takes place at the Community School located at the corner of Burbank Street and Norma Avenue (behind Fair Lawn High School) and is by appointment only.
Only Parents/ Guardians need to be present. Children are not expected to attend.
· Appointments are Monday-Thursday (8:45am-11:45am & 1:45pm-3:45pm) during your neighborhood school’s assigned week(s) (see schedule on page 2).
· Residents who have purchased a home or signed a lease within the school district AFTER June 30, 2017, are subject to the district’s “soft border” policy and may not be eligible to attend their neighborhood school, as per FLBOE Policy 5120. All “soft border” eligible students who are registered prior to April 5, 2019, will be notified of their school placement in the Spring of 2019.
· All “soft border” eligible students who register after April 5, 2019, will receive notification of school assignment after July 15th.
· Residents who have purchased a home or signed a lease within the school district BEFORE July 1, 2017, must complete their child’s registration prior to July 15th of the upcoming school year in order to be grandfathered into their home school.
· The full Board of Education Policy 5120 can be viewed on the district website at www.fairlawnschools.org or <click here>.
· Appointments should take no longer than 15 minutes provided all requested documents are presented and completed (missed appointments will have to be rescheduled). Please call (201) 794-5450 Ext.2369 to reschedule.
· If you don’t have access to a computer or printer, there are several kiosks available for your use at the Community School prior to your appointment.
