KHS Chess Club

The KHS Chess Club once again faced off with Cheverus in a final tune-up before the Maine Team Championships this Saturday. The KHS Club was able to come away with a 3-2 victory. Nathaniel Scardino, Xander Pettis, and Flynn Crean led the team with victories. In each case they were able to put their pieces in strong positions and win convincingly. Matt Durcan lost on board 1 in a king and pawn endgame in his first live match-up.

The game of the day belonged to Fletcher Crean, whose match stretched to almost two hours as the players became tangled in an extremely tight position. Twice Fletcher committed fouls which gave time back to his opponent just when he needed it most. The final seconds exhibited bullet play where each player had under 10 seconds and had to immediately make moves. Unfortunately, Fletcher missed an opportunity to take his opponent's queen in the chaos, and then quickly lost his own in response which ended the match. A great game for Fletcher against one of the top rated HS players in the state and a great victory overall for KHS.

On Saturday we look to take the state title!

MODEL UN LECTURE SERIES

LYRIC TENOR MARK DANIELS RETURNS HOME TO KENNEBUNK HIGH SCHOOL

Versatile tenor, Mark Daniels returns to his hometown, Kennebunk, Maine on Saturday April 1, for a recital of musical theater, art songs, opera arias and duets. Mr. Daniels and his guests are graciously giving this performance as a benefit recital for the Kennebunk High School music and theater departments!

Following graduation from Kennebunk High School and studies at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, his celebrated singing career has taken him to Italy and various US states. Since 2017, Mr. Daniels and his collaborative accompanist, Rob Goodling, have performed multiple recitals together, filmed several acclaimed performances and recorded an album, The Lyric Tenor in Recital. One critic wrote, “…what grabbed my attention was their flawless sense of each other and conveying that to their audience. It is their genius and duality that is the magic!”

This 4 pm homecoming recital in the Kennebunk High School Auditorium will reflect Mark Daniels’ singing career from his high school days through the present. Joining him will be another Kennebunk High School graduate, soprano Rosemary Crimp and well-known Maine teacher/baritenor David Goulet.

$25 Tickets can be purchased now at www.eventbright.com TheLyricTenorReturnsHome.
