TCU Le Center K8 March News
Dear TCU Le Center Families
We have made it to March and the sun seems a bit brighter and we are gaining daylight each day! We are certainly seeing signs of spring and look forward to all of what that entails at school! We are busy planning spring activities and field trips for many grade levels! We are also planning and preparing for next school year as well, it's an exciting time at school!
Thank you for all of your support thus far this year. We have had some great donations made to various fundraisers, parent volunteers for trips and activities, and community support in general for our school! We are proud of our TCU Le Center extended families in our community and are very thankful for all of your support as we work to give our students the best experience we possibly can!
Sincerely,
Mr. Jeff Eppen, Principal
Honoring Kailey Mach
With heavy hearts, our staff, students, and community will be honoring Ms. Kailey who has worked with students at TCU in several of our buildings as both a staff member and a volunteer. Her love for children was evident and so was their love for her.
Her family has asked that anyone wishing to honor her life and her love of children to please donate a children’s book in her name. Services were held earlier this week and if you wish to make a book donation, you may drop it off at the school office, and we will make sure to get it to her family.
Supporting the Holicky Family
An account has been set up at First State Bank in Le Center under Aric & Jessica Holicky to assist with expenses that they will have in the upcoming weeks and months.
TCU Middle School Robotics
TCU had five middle school robotics teams compete this season. Of the five, four of our teams competed in the State Tournament on Thursday, March 3rd, and Friday, March 4th. All five teams had a fantastic season and were great representatives of Tri-City United. We are very excited to announce that Rocky Robot placed 10th in the state competition by “skills score.” Silver Spikes placed 18th. The Alley Cat’s and Blob-Ross teams both had a great showing as well.
Students participating from Le Center were: Casey Holicky, Zach Holicky, Thomas Schatz, Tyegan Wilmes, Logan Lange, Brayden Von Bank, Carter Hunt, Gabe Bednar, Georgie Bell, Lauren Ballman, Sophia Urschel, Ana Gonzalez, Connor Kielty, Sergio Gutierrez-Ruiz, Jesus Garcia Castro, Francisco Mendez, & Sergio Marcos-Nox.

Strategies to Support Children
Blended Learning Days
Any Future Weather-Related Closures: Students and staff will engage in blended learning.
A plan will be communicated to students/parents by 10:00 AM.
Staff members will be available for student support from 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Student attendance is indicated by their work/assignments rather than traditional attendance.
Students will engage in activity "choice boards" that will be sent home ahead of time for grades K-6.
If the school district has an abnormal amount of snow days during the school year, administrators will reevaluate the current plan to see if devices need to be sent home during blended learning days.
Absence Notifications
Please make sure to notify the school office if your child is absent or planning on being absent. You can call the office at 507.357.6802 or email at ahardel@tcu2905.us.

Health Office Update
We Can! (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity & Nutrition) is a national education program designed to give parents and communities a way to help children learn to eat nutritious foods. As parents, you can do a lot to help your children learn healthy eating habits and maintain a healthy weight. Involving them in meal preparation and cooking can motivate them to try new foods – and is a good way to spend time together as a family.
What is a “healthy” diet?
· A healthy eating plan is one that :
· Emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat-free milk products.
· Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts.
· Is low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, sodium/salt, and added sugars.
· Stays within your calorie needs.
Focus on Healthy Food Choices - Choose the GO, SLOW, and WHOA foods:
GO FOODS – are the lowest in fats and added sugar. They are nutrient dense with a better source of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients important to health. Examples of GO foods are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat milk products, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, egg whites, or egg substitute.
SLOW FOODS - are higher in fat, added sugar, and calories. SLOW foods include vegetables with added fat, white refined bread flour, low- fat mayonnaise, 2% low fat milk products, peanut butter, pizza, baked chips, and mac and cheese. Have slow foods sometimes.
WHOA FOODS – are the highest in fat and sugar. They are calorie dense foods and low in vitamins, minerals, and other needed nutrients. Have WHOA foods once in a while, and when you do have them, have small portions. Examples of WHOA foods are whole-milk products, fried foods, bakery sweets, candy, soda, chips, sugary cereals, and creamy salad dressings.
