New Year's Resolutions
It is January, the beginning of a new year, and a time when many people make pledges to change their lives for the better. One thing that most people can do is increase their exercise. An easy way to do this for students is to walk or bike to school. If you are not already using active transport to get to and from school, think about starting to do so!

DRIVING TIP - CONSEJOS PARA CONDUCIR-:
Be especially careful when driving near schools; not only because children can be present, but also because law enforcement of speed laws is strictly enforced.
Tenga especial cuidado al conducir cerca de las zonas escolares; no solo porque puede haber niños, sino también porque se aplican estrictamente las leyes de velocidad.
PEDESTRIAN SAFETY TIPS - CONSEJOS DE SEGURIDAD PARA LOS PEATONES:
Be careful when walking in your school’s parking lot, they can be as dangerous as streets. Also, use caution when walking past driveways, walkers can be difficult for drivers to see, especially when backing up.
Choose a route to school that crosses the fewest streets, trying to avoid busy and high-speed roadways.
If riding a bike be sure that it fits: when seated both feet should be able to touch the ground while your hands are on the handlebars. If riding on a sidewalk, ride slow, yield to walkers, and be ready to stop quickly!
Ten cuidado al caminar por el estacionamiento de tu escuela, pueden ser tan peligrosos como las calles. También ten cuidado al pasar por las entradas de coches, a los conductores se les puede dificultar ver a los peatones, específicamente cuando van en reversa.
Elige una ruta a la escuela que atraviese el menor número de calles, tratando de evitar las vías congestionadas y de alta velocidad.
Si vas en bicicleta, asegúrate que es a tu medida: al estar sentado ambos pies deben tocar el piso mientras las manos están en el manubrio. ¡Si circulas por la acera, ve despacio, cede el paso a los peatones y está preparado para parar rápidamente!

CCSD RUTAS SEGURAS A LA ESCUELA
El programa SRTS del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Clark está financiado por el gobierno federal a través del Departamento de Transporte de Nevada (NDOT) y por la Comisión Regional de Transporte del Sur de Nevada (RTC) y está apoyada por muchos socios de la comunidad. Las actividades de SRTS incluyen talleres escolares y comunitarios que facilitan el desarrollo de planes de SRTS únicos para cada escuela, eventos y asambleas de seguridad para ciclistas y peatones, apoyos curriculares de seguridad para los salones de clase de las escuelas primarias, secundarias y más.
