Hathaway School Parent Bulletin

March 2021 - Go Panthers!

Principal's Message

Welcome to March, Panthers!

This is a new format for our parent newsletters. We hope you enjoy it!

March is a long month and there is a lot happening. 2nd trimester wraps up this month and students will receive a resupply of school materials March 31 - April 2. Spring Break also begins April 5 and continues until April 16.

March is also Women’s History Month and is dedicated to recognizing, celebrating and learning more about the often-overlooked contributions of women to United States history, culture and society.

Please make sure you take a look at the bottom of this page for upcoming events for March.

This month will also be the one year anniversary of schools closing as a result of Covid-19.

Thank you for you for all of the tremendous support you have been providing our students and school! We can make it through this very challenging time working together!

Stay safe and be well all!

Construction at Hathaway

You may have noticed a lot of construction going on around campus! We are currently at work on improving our electrical systems, fire alarms and installing air conditioning in all of our classrooms! Thanks to your support, bond funds approved by our community will improve our facilities, make campus safer and more efficient! Thanks for helping Hathaway be the best school it can be!

ELPAC Testing Information

Students in kindergarten through grade twelve who are classified as English learners will take the Summative ELPAC every year until they are reclassified as proficient in English. Students are tested on their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Your child’s voice is being recorded as part of the Speaking test.

Information from the ELPAC tells your child’s teacher about the areas in which your child needs extra support.

You are an important part of your child’s education. To help your child get ready for the test, you can:

  • Read to your child, or have them read to you on a regular basis.
  • Use pictures and ask your child to tell you what they see, or what is happening in each picture.
  • Provide your child with opportunities to use language outside of school
  • Talk with your child’s teacher about your child’s listening, speaking, reading and writing skills to help support their progress.

To learn more about the ELPAC, go to the California Department of Education Parent Guides to Understanding web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca/parentguidetounderstand.asp.

You also can look at sample test questions on the practice tests, which can be found on the ELPAC Starting Smarter website at https://elpac.startingsmarter.org/ .

If you have any questions about your child taking the ELPAC, please contact Mrs. Tellez-Soto, EL Support Teacher at 805.488.2217 ext. 1887 or via email at: rtellez@hueneme.org

COVID SAFE

Planning a trip to campus?

Please remember to wear a mask.

Don't forget to get a temperature scan at the front entrance!

Keep the Office Team Safe: Please wait at the front office counter or small desk in the office hallway, until an office team member is ready to assist you.

Give us a call and let us know if you want to stop by: 805-488-2217

Three Important Ways too Slow the Spread

  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others and stop the spread of COVID-19.
  • Stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from others who don’t live with you.
  • Avoid crowds. The more people you are in contact with, the more likely you are to be exposed to COVID-19.

What to do if You’re Sick

  • Stay home except to get medical care.
  • Isolate yourself from other members of your family to prevent spread to them and the people that they may have contact with, like grandparents.
  • Even if you don’t feel sick, you can spread COVID-19 to others.
  • Get care immediately if you are having emergency warning signs, like trouble breathing, pain or pressure in chest.
