Summer Camp Description
My Plate is Nutritious
The purpose of this lesson is to introduce the USDA Food Pyramid and motivate the students to seek good nutrition. The students will discuss prior knowledge about good nutrition. They will also learn how to identify the food groups of the USDA food pyramid. They will have a group activity where the students will work cooperatively with the class to assemble a food pyramid puzzle.
Color Me WOW
Make learning about color mixing like an experiment; don’t tell the students what will happen, let them find out! Color theories create a logical structure for color. For example, if we have an assortment of fruits and vegetables, we can organize them by color and place them on a circle that shows the colors in relation to each other.
Kids Being Green
For today's students, recycling is a way of life. But that doesn't mean students understand why we recycle. More than ever, that's important for students to know in our present day world. The kids will explore the amazing world of recycling for kids with our experiments, crazy facts, cool projects, interesting quizzes and more! The kids will learn why we recycle, where it happens, how it happens, what materials are easiest to recycle, how much energy it can save and much more.
Don’t Bug Me Out
Summer is a great time to study bugs. The term "bugs" can include lots of different crawling, flying, hopping, and swimming creatures. The kids will read more about "true bugs" and some basic "bug" knowledge to guide your kids this summer.
Young Astronomers
Learning about science should never be boring. We will take the kids to the moons of Jupiter, and explore the possibility of life on these distant worlds. Travel through the expanse of the universe and discover just how much SPACE there is in space. And we will learn how modern day scientists are pushing the limits of space exploration every day. The kids will learn about our solar neighborhood and how it's an exciting place. We will teach them all about how the solar system is full of planets, moons, asteroids, comets, minor planets, and many other exciting objects. Learn about the explosive moon that orbits the planet Jupiter, or explore the gigantic canyons and deserts on Mars.
Sea Life
Discover what it takes for amazing ocean animals to survive their underwater world.
Caring for Pets
Pets are fun, but they take serious work! We will learn about the duties and responsibilities of caring for a pet. We will explore what animals need to be healthy and safe, and how to stay safe around other peoples' pets. Do you know what kind of food and shelter your dog, cat, fish, or snake needs? Do you know what kind of shots or vaccines your pet should get from a veterinarian so that it stays healthy? Find out how you can care for your pet and be a good owner and friend!
Food Chains
To learn about food chains can be entertaining and interesting to kids. Upon knowing animal classes, it is natural for kids to proceed to learn about food chain. At this stage, they should learn who are the predators and preys. Students will understand that almost all kinds of animals’ food can be traced back to plants and that the sun is often the ultimate source of energy needed for all organisms to stay alive and grow.
Community Heroes
This lesson will help the students recognize heroes within their community. Children quite often idolize sports and celebrities. But most real heroes are not people of great renown. They live near us. By performing small acts, they win our admiration. Since children imitate what they see and hear, it is important to point out to them what actions merit honor and which individuals deserve admiration.
The Human Senses
The five senses is often one of the first units that children start out with in science. Because it's highly experiential, it's a great way to develop scientific observation skills! We will be doing a variety of activities that implement all of our five senses.
Watch Me Glow!
Glow sticks are one of those mysterious toys that keep kids (and adults) entertained for hours. Who knew there are so many fun things to do with them: everything from kids crafts to party decor! We have rounded lots of glow sticks ideas and crafts that will inspire the kids to have some fun in the dark.
Kitchen FUN!
Cooking with kids is fun and easy. Easy children's recipes will have you get your kids in the kitchen cooking and having fun. Kids can explore new foods, learn about nutrition, and develop math and reading skills as they measure and read directions.
