1st & 2nd Grade End of the Year Celebration!

VLA Chromebook Collection

All FCPS students will return their Chromebooks before heading out for the summer. The district needs to assess the Chromebooks, make repairs and replace them as needed. If your student is participating in Summer Ignite, they will be reassigned a Chromebook prior to starting. We will be hosting a Drive Through Chromebook Collection on Wednesday, May 19th from 1:00 - 6:30pm at the VLA Headquarters located at 1126 Russel Cave Road. Please plan to drive through and drop off your student's Chromebook, charger and hot spot at that time. We will send another email communication this week with more details.

Student Success Story: Ivan Gabbard Moffley, 7th Grade

Our 7th grade students' science assignment was to represent the phases of matter through a picture, a story, etc. Enjoy the story of Horatio the Snow Cowboy's day at the Spa.

Teacher Spotlight: Jamie Williamson, 4th Grade

I just wanted to let you know that Cooper got the post card in the mail that you sent him. Thank you so much for taking the time to do that. That was very sweet and thoughtful of you and you really made his day!

I also just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful year. I know it was probably your craziest, wildest and most stressful year ever, but you handled it with grace and a smile. Cooper and I really appreciate all that you did this year to teach him and help support him. He has grown more this year academically than any other school year so we couldn’t be more pleased and thankful for all of your hard work and we couldn’t be more proud of him.

Author Visit : Jessica Young

On Tuesday April 27th, 1st and 2nd grade VLA students participated in an author visit from award winning author, Jessica Young. The grant was written by 2nd grade teacher, Denise Lewis and sponsored by the Kentucky Book Festival. In addition to the one-hour author visit, students received the gift of a free book: Haggis and Tank. The students had a great time learning about the writing process, finding alliteration, homophones, similes and metaphors and asking excellent questions. We are very grateful to the donors: the Elsa M. Heisel Sule Charitable Trust, Kosair Charities, and Mr. Tom Appleton for making it possible.

2021 Summer Break “I DO” Program List: Identifying Opportunities, Developing Relationships & Organizing Partnerships for Youth!

Dear Lexington Community,

Program Providers and Community Partners work so hard to provide positive youth programming; and Partners for Youth wants to make sure that their efforts are recognized and supported. One way that we like to support them is to educate the community about the free and affordable positive youth programs they provide that are available in Lexington and the surrounding area. We do this by developing and maintaining the “I DO” program list from information they provide us; and distributing that list during the School year, spring break, and summer break to organizations and partners in our list serve so that they can share with their youth and families.

Thanks for being a Partner for Youth!
