Gregor Mendel
"Father of genetics" by: Dani Martin
He was born July 22, 1822 and he died January 6, 1884
Gregor Mendel is famous for discovering genetics. He experimented how genes work on pea plants. This lead him to come up with the "fundamental laws of inheritance".
Early life
*He grew up on his family’s farm, in what was then Heinzendorf, Austria.
*He spent his childhood in the rural setting.
*Until age 11, when a local teacher who was impressed with his dedication for learning recommended that he be sent to secondary school in Troppau to continue his education.
*The move was hard on his family due to money, and was often a difficult experience for Mendel, but he excelled in his studies, and in 1840, he graduated from the school with honors.
Moving on
*As he got deeper into his studies Mendel became depressed and completely aboandoned his work. He eventually started his studies again after recuperating from his stress.

Experiments and Theory's
Around 1854, Mendel began to research the transmission of hereditary traits in plant hybrids. At the time of Mendel’s studies, "It was commonly accepted that, over generations, a hybrid would revert to its original form, the implication of which suggested that a hybrid could not create new forms." This was one of his theorys. The results of his studies were often cut short by the short period of time during which the experiments were made, Mendel’s research went on for eight years. This experiment involved tens of thousands of individual plants.
Achievements
*Gregor Mendel was elected vice president of the National Science Society in 1868.
*He was nominated for the Order of Franz Josef in 1872.
*Awarded the Medal of the Heitzing Horticultural Society in 1882.
*published his work in 1866
