Whitney Families-
As the new principal at Whitney Elementary, I am very excited to meet all of my Whitney students and families in person on August 25th. My number one priority is to build relationships with my students and families and to keep all of my students safe while they are here at school. I want to share with you some important information around how we will keep everyone safe here at school during this crazy pandemic. This information is updated on a regular basis and the link below is the best way to stay up to date as the district puts out new information.
We are opening school to all students, all day, every day. The first day is Wednesday, August 25th from 8:45 - 12:00. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Thursday, August 26th and Friday, August 27th are FULL days of school for everyone. Please remember that due to safety precautions for ALL students, we do not allow parents to walk into the buildings with students. We will have staff at every entrance inside of the gates as well as staff with class lists to help support ALL of our students in finding their teacher and classroom. We know it is not ideal as a parent but we hope you understand our reasoning around the safety for all students.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES - no need to purchase school supplies this year, they will all be provided by the school.
OPEN HOUSE - come and meet your child's teacher and see their classroom on Monday, August 30th from 5:30-6:30. Please make sure you wear a mask while on the Whitney campus. This is a state and district mandate.
Here are some safety protocols we will have in place:
- NO attestations need to be filled out. Stay home if you are sick.
- Masks will be worn while inside the classroom.
- Students may take off their masks outside.
- Desks will be spaced 3 feet apart, or as best as we can.
- Lunch will be served in the gym and we will space students 3 feet apart or as best we can.
- Quarantine protocols - in a K-12 indoor classroom the close contact definition excludes students who were at least three feet away from an infected student when (a) both students were wearing face coverings/masks and (b) other prevention strategies were in place. This exception does not apply to teachers, staff, or other adults in the indoor classroom setting.
- We will have an isolation room if a student becomes ill, they will be separated from other students until they can be picked up.
- Handwashing and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the building.
- If there are things that need to be shared, this can happen but we will ensure that students are practicing appropriate hand hygiene when this is necessary.
- Drinking fountains will not be used. Students should bring water bottles. Cups will be provided to students that don't bring an individual water bottle.
Please reach out via telephone(573-1900) or via Let's Talk and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Sincerely,
Mr. Hunt
Proud Principal of Whitney Elementary
