From our Fabulous PTO

Greetings Tanglen families!

Fueled by acts of kindness, this is our main fundraiser for the year, and how the PTO pays for all our events like the Block Party, Bingo night, staff appreciation, and student field trips! Every dollar helps!

Check out our leaderboard here! We've completed 222 Acts of Kindness and raised almost $20K from 34 states with just over a week to go! KEEP IT UP!! Do you know anyone in these grey states? Send them your fundraising link to help us get to 50 states! Even $1 counts!

*We want to welcome volunteers back into the building! Sign up using this link for a time that works for you and we'll reach out to coordinate the details of your volunteer slot. Your students and their teachers benefit in so many ways from your involvement!

Contact us at lhtanglenpto@gmail.com if you have questions.

*Please join us with your family at the Tanglen Block party next Wednesday 9/21/22 from 4pm-7pm. Free food, DJ, Ninja Warrior Course, inflatables, photo booth, and much more! Check out this Sign Up Genius for the block party! We still have a few volunteer spots left for the event next Wednesday from 4-7pm. Short shifts will allow you to still enjoy the event with your families!

Student Nutrition changes for the 2022-23 School Year

The USDA has determined that school meals will NOT be free for all students for the 2022-23 school year. Therefore, a meal benefit application is required to obtain free or reduced meals. Meal applications for the 2022-23 school year are available on the Nutrition page in the Free Meals & Food Assistance tab. You can also find breakfast and lunch menus and pricing for paid meals on your child’s school website.

Although lunch is no longer free, a reimbursable USDA FREE BREAKFAST is available for all students at L.H. Tanglen Elementary School this year.

Please encourage a healthy start to the day with a FREE nutritious breakfast to fuel our students' brains.

COVID Guidance for 2022-23

Hopkins Public Schools follows the guidance of the Minnesota Department of Health/CDC in its response to COVID-19. In the 2022-23 school year, Hopkins will continue to require five-day minimum isolation for those who test positive for COVID. Mask wearing is recommended but not required in our buildings or on the bus. Please check our COVID Hub on our website for the latest information on COVID-19 and our current response.

Learn about eLearning days

Hopkins Public Schools has made an important change to our inclement weather policy (sometimes thought of as snow days). Starting this school year, when there is a need to close school due to weather, Hopkins Public Schools will shift to an eLearning day for PreK-12 students. Moving to eLearning days makes it possible for students to engage in learning even when the weather makes it unsafe to operate the in-person school. In addition, an eLearning format allows the district to plan for weather without having to consider adding additional days to the school year due to unexpected school closures. eLearning days do not apply to VirtualEDU as they will continue normal operations in the event of a weather-related closure. You can learn more about this policy on our website.

Social-Emotional Learning Survey September 21 - October 5

In accordance with our school board policy 520, we are sending notification to all parents of any surveying their child is taking part in at school. Building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. We will be asking for your 3rd-6th grade child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completed at school in their homerooms. (We will be asking teachers to reflect with children in grades K-2). The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on social and emotional competencies that align with the Hopkins graduate traits outlined in the district's strategic plan (e.g., sense of belonging and rigorous expectations).
We are asking that all our students participate in the surveys. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they can skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys. If you have any questions about the SEL survey or would like information about opting out, please don’t hesitate to contact us. You may also choose to opt your student out of this survey no later than September 19.
