The Pershing Elementary Newsletter
Good Evening Pershing Families,
I hope your children had a smooth start to the new school year. Our staff were very excited to begin to get to know their students, and you! This week we will have our annual "Playground Assembly" in which students learn about different games, how to play them, and our safety routines and procedures for all areas of the school and playground.
Please be sure that you have reviewed your child's Emergency Contact and Health information in the Parent Portal. We rely on this critical information to be able to reach guardians during emergencies:
Click and complete the “Re-enrollment” which is located in the upper right hand corner. There are several sections. When you are completely done, it will have two green “Re-enrollment Complete” labels marked on the right hand side of your child’s information. Please do this for each student. If you have any questions or challenges, please contact our office team. Celeste Whedon, school secretary, or Tammy Hart, attendance clerk, can assist at 916-979-8076.
Below please find more information about our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), and our before and after school care program, Discovery Club. Also, if you are interested in volunteering in the classroom, or attending a field trip as a chaperone, please go to www.sanjuan.edu/volunteer to begin the process.
More information will be shared soon regarding our Annual Jog-a-thon, upcoming PTO meetings, School Site Council opportunities, and more!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please reach out to our office at 916-979-8076. Enjoy your evening and have a great start to the week!
Mrs. Kendra Shelton
Calendar of Upcoming Events
August 18-19: Playground Assemblies in the morning at school
August 24: Minimum Day Schedule! School is dismissed at 12:20p.m. for Kindergarten through 6th grades!
August 24: Back-to-School Night
- 6p.m. for 4th - 6th grades
- 6:45p.m. for 1st - 3rd grades
Intended to be a parent only event, Back-to-School Night helps parents connect and learn about the school year with your child's teacher. Please make arrangements for one guardian per classroom to attend and please do not bring children, unless you have no other childcare options. Back-to-School Night is an important opportunity to help parents become well-informed about classroom routines, homework, communication plans, and to have an opportunity to ask questions. We may have limited space for childcare coverage for those who cannot make arrangements. More information coming this week!
September 5: Labor Day - NO SCHOOL
The COVID-19 Safety Protocols are the same now as they were when we ended the school year in June. This year, if a child has been out due to symptoms, and needs to clear early to return, parents may call the office to schedule an appointment for a COVID test for their child the next day, as we will only be testing those who have made appointments. For more information, please visit
COVID-19 Guide: Safe Learning Options and Supports. Most importantly, if your child does not feel well, please call our office and share with us your child's symptoms, and have your child stay home until feeling well and cleared to return.
COVID Home Test Kits: Our office has free COVID-19 Test Kits for use at home that families may pick-up in the office. If you cannot come to the school office between 7:30a.m. - 4p.m., but you would like your child to bring a kit home, please call our school office to make arrangements. Home test kits are not eligible to clear to return to school after being symptomatic, but are a great tool for monitoring symptoms or exposures.
