phi·lan·thro·py: noun, 1. The desire to promote the welfare of others, benevolence, altruistic concern for human welfare and advancement.

The Pope PTO philanthropy committee has come together this year to do some amazing things for our adopted school, M. Robinson Elementary. In the fall, the committee delivered 40+ Halloween costumes and 100+ warm coats to needy children. At Christmas, 18 families were adopted and gifts were given in addition to many canned foods from our canned food drive. In February, our Pope family cleaned their bookshelves and shared gently used books with children who do not have many books at home. In early March, we as a committee blessed the teachers of M. Robinson with a wonderful BBQ themed luncheon.

When I spoke with the school’s AP, she was so gracious for all the help our school has provided. As I walked through their school to the cafeteria, I noticed smiling children, quiet whispers, and straight lines of children going to and from destinations. M. Robinson is a school just like ours, with students trying to learn and grow. We have a wonderful opportunity to role model philanthropy to our children when we volunteer to help our adopted school. When our children collect books for the school, they are modeling philanthropic behavior. Thank you to all who have donated food, books, coats, socks, underwear, and your time to help our adopted school.

COMING SOON the Philanthropy committee will be starting LOVE CARE SHARE, an opportunity for our children to get involved with helping M. Robinson. Watch for notifications coming soon.
