2nd Grade Newsletter - Gibson
February 23 - March 15
Warm Weather
It's been a nice couple of days that we've had lately! The nice weather always gets me ready for Spring, warm weather, and Daylights Savings Time. The kids have had two good weeks working hard, being respectful and responsible learners.
We have a few more busy weeks before Spring Break comes around along with some fun activities! These coming weeks through April will be important, as there are many new concepts and review of previous learnings that will help prepare students for MAP Testing in the Spring.
We don't have a lot in this newsletter, just a few updates!

Teacher Notes🏫
- We have a fun literacy night planned for students and families. Hope to see you there if you are able to make it!
- I will be out on Monday, March 4. No more braces. Yay! Please remind kiddos to be respectful to our guest teacher.
- Students have been doing a great job of making sure their Chromebooks are charged and ready for learning. I've added a few new learning links and resources to our Google Classroom Classwork tab. SplashLearn and Zearn are great sites to reinforce what we are learning in math and the Typing Hyperdoc provides guided typing practice as many assessments and reading responses will need to be typed starting in 3rd grade on up.
- In celebration of Read Across America and March Madness, all of 2nd grade will be participating in a book tournament. We will gather daily to enjoy 2 similar stories and vote on our favorites. The top liked books will move on up through the book bracket to see which one makes it to the final round.
What are we learning?🧠

Homework🏡
We will continue sending home math review, spelling practice, and reading logs. This is a great way to check in and see how your student is doing with the material we are learning in class. We also greatly appreciate if you have a minute to check over their progress in the moment. As always, if there are any questions, please reach out and I can check in with students or assist throughout the week. Thank you for your support at home!
Attendance ✔️
With it being the sick season and testing season, attendance becomes especially important. As a school, we just wanted to remind everyone that if your child is not sick, to please make sure that they are coming to school. We learn about 1-2 new concepts every week and missing these can make it hard to catch up on learning. Here is a handout discussing why attendance is important and what you can do at home. We also understand that attendance is a partnership between school and family, so please let us know if there is ever anything that we can do to help.
