Summer Updates
Hi everyone! It has been an eventful start to summer. We just wanted to keep you in the loop on some happenings here at West. :)
1. Staffing updates - We currently have several 1:1 paraprofessional openings for incoming sixth graders. If you know anyone looking for a job, please direct them to the CCRES link on our district website in the HR section. In addition, we have a few staff changes to make you aware of. Christine Hartzman will be moving to our Title I reading specialist position at West. Pending board approval, Lauren Mills will be our new seventh grade math teacher. Lauren comes to us with several years of experience as a middle school math teacher and math specialist. Tiffany Tyler will join our team as the school counselor for seventh grade. Tiffany has worked for many years for Service Access Management (SAM) in several roles, including crisis management. Additionally, she recently served as a middle school counselor in Schuylkill Valley School District.
2. Scheduling - we have been working nonstop on the 2019-20 building schedule. Due to the rollover from eSchool to Infinite Campus, the bulk of our scheduling needs to be done this year by June 30. We will be without access to either system from June 30-July 8. Once Infinite Campus opens up, we will be checking that the rollover happened smoothly (here's hoping - fingers crossed!) and then finalizing any individual student updates. As our special ed team is already aware, our caseload numbers have necessitated that we move a teacher into an itinerant role for 2019-20. Mark Magro will be filling that need. This requires some shifting of other pieces. I will be following up next week with the special education teachers whose schedules were impacted by this shift with more specific details now that we have the schedule worked out. Thank you for your patience.
3. Calendar - a draft of the 2019-20 calendar is attached to this email. Please take note of the one-hour meeting and faculty meeting dates for professional staff. Dates and cycle days will be added to the Outlook calendar soon.
4. Summer Mailings - Jan and Lynda have been busy working on preparing the August summer mailings. Thank you to the teams who have already submitted your letters to include in the mailings. If you still have something to include, please send it to both Jan and Lynda in the near future so they can continue working on these items. Thank you!
5. Students at West - There are still plenty of students on our campus this summer! ESY and PAWS start next week, summer school starts the following week, and band camp will be here in July as well. Thank you to all of the staff who are working to prepare for these groups!
6. Construction updates - Yes, there are still things to be done. Crews have been on site this summer to continue tweaking our HVAC needs and our alarm systems, in addition to completing some punch list items. On Monday, the sound system in the gym will be installed. We are currently experiencing delays with the flooring work that was expected in Ed's tech ed room and the gym and are working with the construction team on trying to get resolution.
7. Summer Tasks - Our custodial team has been working hard to get rooms cleaned and prepare the building for another school year. Thanks to them for all of their continued efforts! Thanks to Kelli Miller as well for all of the technology work that takes place behind the scenes!
