  • *Distorted facial features
  • *Unusually small heads (more prominent in smaller infants)
  • *Seizures
  • *Neck stiffness
  • *Difficulties in focusing the eyes
  • Treatment

    There's no cure or specific treatment for fetal alcohol syndrome. The physical defects and mental deficiencies typically persist for a lifetime.

    Important Facts

    * When a women consumes too much alcohol during pregnancy(usually defined as multiple alcoholic beverages a day) the baby can be born with fetal alcohol syndrome.

    *There is no known "safe" amount or type of alcohol that can be consumed during pregnancy.

    *Fetal alcohol syndrome is acquired during a pregnancy related to maternal alcohol ingestion & inadequate diet.
