Flexible Friday
Message from Ms. Cohen on Flexible Fridays:
Good afternoon,
I hope you and your family are doing well during this difficult time. I'm excited to inform you that I will be hosting open meetings for each unit on Fridays. These are optional meetings and students can come in or out as you or they see fit. The meeting times and codes are listed below. Tomorrow's meeting is just a general check in to say hello. Depending on the size of the group, children will have a few moments to say or share something positive. Starting May 1st, we will be doing some service learning projects during these meeting times. Students may want to have markers and paper available if they have them.
Please note that these are not counseling sessions and personal information will be discouraged from sharing at this time, as confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. If you feel your child is struggling emotionally and needs some additional support (or you, yourself need some support) please send me an email with your concerns. All sessions will be recorded. Once again, these are totally voluntary.
Primaries 9:45-10:15
Intermediates 10:30-11:15
Seniors 11:30-12:15
Growth Mindset
I have provided some videos from ClassDojo on Growth Mindset. They were developed by ClassDojo and the PERTS Research Center. Feel free to watch with your kids to encourage and support a growth mindset!
I provided Episode 4 of the series on this newsletter. Click the here to access all Class Dojo episodes on Growth Mindset!
MSD Virtual Learning Updates
We began Phase III of the Morris School District Virtual Learning Plan on Monday, April 20th (last week). I am including a link to the presentation Mr. Pendergrast sent out on 4/17. Click here for English and here for Spanish.
Below are some key details of the Phase III plan that I'd like to highlight for you:
- The school day will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Introduction of new content in 3 subject areas each day M-Th
On Flexible Fridays students will engage in enrichment, catch-up support, social-emotional learning (e.g. reflections), and other activities
- “Live” sessions will occur 3 times a day utilizing interactive platforms, such as Google Meet. Attendance during live sessions is always optional.
- "Live" sessions will be recorded by the classroom teacher.
The teacher may post a recorded session on his/her Google Classroom. Recordings may ONLY be accessed through your child’s Google Classroom (and thus are password-protected)
Students may NOT record, screenshot, or otherwise share Google Meet sessions or recordings. This is a violation of District policy.
Parents/guardians were sent a Consent Form for Video/Audio Conferencing via Swift alert.
If you have any questions about your child's virtual learning experience, please feel free to reach out to me directly or your child's teacher.
