Memorial Day Program 2016

We are so appreciative of Sargeant Chris Casella, our guest speaker, who engaged one and all with his reflective and moving Memorial Day tribute, for school committee member Mitch Grosky attending and for sharing his amazing photos on the Celebrate Schools Athol Royalston Facebook site, for the company of parents and families, the preparations of faculty and staff, and for the children in our school community who through poems and songs honored those lost in service of our great nation. Many thanks for making our last Memorial Day at Pleasant Street so special.

Farewell to Pleasant Street ~ Community Event on June 1

Pleasant Street School Faculty and Staff cordially invite you to be our honored guest at a Community Open House at Pleasant Street School on Wednesday, June 1st from 5:00-6:30 p.m.

This event will be an opportunity for residents of Athol to visit the school one last time before it closes in June. As a former student or staff member of Pleasant Street School, we hope that you will attend, visit with current staff and former students, rediscover the items from the unearthed Time Capsule, and share your memories and stories from your time at Pleasant Street School.

To read a recent article about the unearthing of the historic student friendly time capsule please click on the Athol Daily News linked below.

Learning from One Another

Multilingual students from Athol Royalston Middle School recently visited Pleasant Street School to share African artwork, folktales, and math games.

Animal Adventures

We are deeply appreciative of our school PTO for sponsoring a visit from Step by Step Animal Adventures, a backyard barnyard. We are to blame if your child came home wanting a pet bunny or baby goat! They were just so cute.

Boston Aquarium Makes Third Grade Field Trip Memories

Our third grade classes had a wonderful time at the Boston Aquarium during their recent field trip. This learning experience offered a great time for one an all and will definitely serve as one of the highlights of the year for our third grade!

Special thanks to our PTO for sponsoring the Wilson Bus and for making this trip possible and more enjoyable. Many thanks to contributing photographers- Aurore LaMarche, Heidi Heuer, Barbara Franck, and Andrea Whaley.

Walk-athon is a huge success

Many thanks to our PTO members and family volunteers who helped make our spring walk-athon a wonderful success! While it was a wee bit hot that did not stop our students from running and walking laps. Donations raised by this PTO sponsored fund-raiser will be given to the ACES "Fill the Bookshelves Committee", organized by the Friends of the Library, a tax deductible organization that is seeking to raise $25,000 to purchase library books for the new school.

At the risk of omitting someone I wanted to thank Sarah & Peter Smith, Irene Innis, Becky Lanoue, Andrea Whaley, and Jennifer Needle for volunteering at this event.

Caught Being Good!

Our faculty and staff use Caught Being Goods as just another way of letting children know that we notice and appreciate simple acts of being helpful and kind throughout our school. When a student receives a Caught Being Good he or she also receives a small prize from Principal Ellis. Pictured to the right are Marissa, Reily, and Kayleigh.

Garden Club Week #4

This week garden club members gave their potted "grass-head" containers a little cut and style. Students were exercising some creative vision while enjoying their gardening time afterschool.

Special thanks to Mrs. Nancy Berthiaume for leading this program that is generously funded with a grant from the Athol Royalston Education Fund.

Catch of the Day

Our School Support Noon Duty staff continue to be recognizing students in their, "Catch of the Day," program. This honor is given to students who staff observe demonstrating our school expectations of respect for self, respect for others, and respect for property during recess. Each day they choose one student from recess as the Catch of the Day who receives a certificate, a stuffed fish for a day, and is entered into a weekly drawing in the "fish bowl" to be picked as Catch of the Week. Pictured to the right is Reilly.

Free Breakfast & Lunch

As part of the 2010 Healthy and Hunger-Free Kids Act, Athol-Royalston Regional School District, along with other districts, now offers free meals to all students this school year.
