From the Principal's Desk...

Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of

the least brothers of mine, you did for me.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I want to thank everyone who helped and supported our St. John’s School Spectacular last weekend. Even though it was a significantly scaled down event, it was very successful. We had such a wonderful remote attendance, buying and bidding. I want to thank Mary Beth Salyers for her wonderful leadership; Roger Hollstegge for is expertise and culinary excellence; our Spectacular Committee; Zach Collins for his technology assistance, and Cathy Dreyer, Laura Heidorn and Jill Katterjohn, our office staff, all of whom made this a success.

I’m sure that everyone is looking forward to a well-deserved Thanksgiving holiday. I want to wish all of you and your families a very blessed Thanksgiving. Please take care of yourselves and do what is needed to stay safe and healthy. We all know that this is a critical time.

We continue to be able to stay open because of our students’ willingness to follow our protocols and because of your cooperation. Our school nurse, Mrs. Elise Hochhausler, has been an incredible resource and our primary guide and contact with the health department.

We are still wrestling with being able to find enough substitute teachers to fill the ever changing vacancies. We are doing well managing what goes on at school, but we have little or no control over what happens outside of school.

This Sunday ends the Church’s Liturgical Year with the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It is especially fitting that we are reminded in Sunday’s Gospel (MT 25: 31-46) of what God expects of us and of how we are to treat one another. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’
Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least of brothers (sisters) of mine, you did for me.”

In the midst of this pandemic, may we all continue to care for those around us, those in need, and especially the poor. We have much to be thankful for and much to celebrate. My prayer is that we will all be able to hear the Lord say to us. Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of the least brothers (sisters) of mine, you did for me.

Peace,

Dan Minelli

Santa Shop

Our new Santa Shop Chairperson, Laura Monti, and her committee are planning a modified, scaled down version of our traditional Santa Shop. In hopes of clearing out the perishable items that have already been purchased, we will be pre-wrapping bath & body products and some food items that students may purchase for their family gifts.

Unfortunately, with the tremendous number of volunteers that it takes to have this event every year and the space being crowded with students, we are unable to hold the event in the same manner as in the past.

Gifts will be available to purchase the week of December 7th. Stay tuned for more details.
