Principal's Message
Dear Sabre families,
We welcome autumn and all the beautiful colors it brings. It’s going to be really nice weather as we close out our last week of September so definitely enjoy it!
Terry Fox Walk/Run:
What a special day this past Friday as we had a momentous and memorable day. Our students and staff embraced and supported one another during the Terry Fox Walk/Run. When we look at student engagement, our goal is to see it in the classroom and out. As we know, kids need to feel attachment and belonging and that is one of our foundational goals at SAL. Our kids, like us adults, need a sense of meaning and purpose as well as a feeling of empowerment, through their voice and involvement. This past Friday, we were all involved and together with the Terry Fox Walk/Run. These moments for our school are very important and powerful as we collectively strive for who we want to be and what we wish to stand for. We spoke to our students at the grade level assemblies earlier in September about the words - Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, and Compassion. These words came alive on Friday with their actions.
Orange Shirt Day:
This week leads us to Orange Shirt Day on Thursday, September 29. Orange Shirt Day is a day of remembrance and an act of reconciliation. It is an opportunity for First Nations, Métis and Inuit; local governments; schools; and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
Thank you to Mrs. Willman, our First Nations, Métis, Inuit lead at SAL and our Aboriginal Studies class for their planning. As a note, we will be selling Orange Shirts in front of the office for $5.00 until Wednesday, September 28. All proceeds will be donated to the Orange Shirt Society.
Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews:
Thank you to everyone who filled out the Google survey regarding Parent Teacher Interviews. The data was fairly close from our parent group and it makes sense as times are changing. The traditional 9 - 5 has been replaced with evolving work schedules for our parents. Therefore, we will also be flexible and will be running Parent Teacher Interviews in-person on October 12 and virtually on November 17. Stay tuned for how you can book a time slot for our upcoming P/S/T in just over a couple of weeks. Please note, administration and guidance meet in person with parents throughout the year to strategize and customize programming. Hence, and as an example, if you would like to meet with me at any point in the year, please do not hesitate to contact me directly and we can work on a time that works best for you.
Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing snippets of school data. As mentioned in last week’s edition of the Scene, data does inform our decision making and help us guide the decision making process. Here is our first piece of data, from Alberta Education’s Assurance review as an outline of where we are at SAL. Again, stay tuned for more data in the coming weeks. Please see the pdf below.
Have an awesome last week of September everyone and please do not hesitate to reach out should you have any questions.
Have a good week everyone!

School Fees:
School fee information for the 2022-2023 school year is now posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay them online using Visa, MasterCard or debit card—when available from your financial institution.
Don’t forget to also log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of various school activities such as field trips, class projects, extracurricular activities fees and more.
If circumstances exist where you are unable to pay your fees, you can apply to have fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2022.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines, visit www.eips.ca/schools/fees and Salisbury's website at www.salcomp.ca. Alternatively, contact Jackie Uhrig, Business Manager at 780-467-8816.
