Hamilton Ridge News and Events - February 2021

A Note from Mrs. Z

Dear Hamilton Ridge Families,

Our grade 3-5 students began in-person today, and we now have an energetic full house of K-5 students! We could not be happier to have them all here again, as this is the first time since March 13, 2020, when we have had all students in school. We are celebrating their return! We are staying true to our safety protocols so that we can keep everyone in good health and in attendance. In addition to celebrating our students’ return, we are looking forward to some upcoming celebrations such as Kindness Week and Reading March Madness. Thank you for your continued support and the care you have taken to keep your students going both academically and emotionally through this unprecedented time. You are a hero.

Have a fabulous February!

Karen Zwolenski - Mrs. Z

K-5 Student Technology Guidelines

As we transition back to in-person learning, K-5 students will be retaining the iPad or Chromebook they have been using during hybrid and distance learning. Please help your child plan and prepare for this new and exciting responsibility. Below are a few discussion and planning tips to help ensure your child will be successful. Thank you for your help!

  • Please discuss and plan with your child how they will transport their device safely to and from school. This might include finding a special spot in the backpack that is separate from food, water, wet outdoor clothing, or sandy shoes. If your child’s backpack has a padded section inside it, this is a great spot for the device.

  • If your child rides the bus, remind them that the bus floor is not a safe spot for a backpack with an electronic device. Keeping it on your lap while seated is the safest way to transport your device on the bus.

  • Find a special spot for your child to charge their device each night. If the devices come to school fully charged each day, they should last the whole day, but please pack the charging cord just in case.

  • Remind your child each night to charge their device, and pack it in their backpack each morning. Thank you for your help setting your child up for success!

Kindness Week - February 15-19

Hamilton Ridge, along with all elementary schools, celebrate student learning, the seasons, ESTEM, and special school events. We are committed to ensuring that all students are celebrated, included, and have authentic and meaningful opportunities to share. While we do not hold one hour parties for Halloween, the winter holidays, or Valentine’s Day, we provide a variety of celebrations and school events. Our next one is Kindness Week, February 15-19! We devote a week to celebrate friendship and kindness. At each grade level, teachers will have activities that celebrate how we treat each other with kindness. We will have dress up days, notes of kindness, and opportunities to demonstrate friendship skills. Please refer to your child’s teacher’s newsletter for more information.

With the transition of students to full time in-person, we will be celebrating I Love to Read (which is usually celebrated in February) in a new way! We will host March Reading Madness which will begin on March 1. Activities and celebrations of reading will be held throughout the month. More information to come!

Hamilton Ridge PTC Update

  • We're putting finishing touches on our first fundraiser of the year. It's a direct donation drive, which means there is nothing to purchase. It's simply a drive to raise funds for our school, specifically for outside equipment. More to come!
  • We're also starting to put together our inaugural Hamilton Ridge yearbook! The PTC is taking the lead on the project this year. More to come there too. What a year to remember with a yearbook!
  • Our next meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 6:30. Please go to the event listing on our Facebook page for the dial-in link. Perhaps we can get together in person for our March meeting!
  • Are you interested in joining DOGS (Dads and Dudes of Great Students)? Reach out to Mark at to be in-the-know on future projects. The DOGS do a great deal around the school. Put your handiwork to work!
  • When you order out, make sure you're doing so on a Hamilton Ridge fundraiser night! We've been partnering with great local restaurants who give a portion of proceeds to our school on designated nights. Stay tuned on our Facebook page and Seesaw for upcoming nights!
