about Friedrich Miescher
Born: August 13, 1844. Died: August 26, 1895. He was a Swedish biochemist and physician. In 1869 found the molecule in the nuclei of white blood cell and called in nuclein.
DNA
DNA was first called nuclein because it seemed to come from cell nuclei. later know as nucleic acid after 1874, miescher separated it into proteins and acid components now known as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
Basic structure: looks like a twisted ladder.
6 smaller molecules:
5 carbon sugar called deoxyribose,
phosphate molecule, 4
different nitrogen bases( adenine, thymine, and guanine).
There is 2 major steps. One of which is translation during which the information stored in DNA is transferred to a similar molecule called RNA. The 2nd is Translation, getting from a gene to a protein, takes place in the cytoplasm
