VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE COURAGEOUS'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Courageous'.
To be courageous we want our learners to give everything a go, be a risk taker, stick up for themselves, think of their own solutions, try new things, offer opinions and ideas, join in with others, and to be their own person.
SCHOOL GOAL: Being 'open' to new learning!
WHAT: Being prepared to learn new ‘skills’ at school this term!
WHY: To understand that learning never stops
To know that I am capable of learning new things
Being open to learn in all areas – socially, academically and emotionally
I can improve myself by being open to new ideas
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You are keen to ‘take on’ new learning and use this learning to develop your skills
You want to learn new things – you are a sponge and might go on to research more!
Even if it is not a subject you like, you are still keen to learn and develop your skills
You are always improving and developing your skills with new learning.
KIDS HAVING FUN IN THE WHENUA!
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We have come to the end of another week at Covid alert Level 2. I have to commend the Vogeltown teaching staff on their professionalism and caution with our learners at this level. The Vogeltown learners have been amazing too! Hopefully, as a nation, we have contained this virus in a limited area of Auckland and it has not spread too far. We will know more about the alert levels on Monday and then they will be reviewed again next Friday. We will keep you in the loop as soon as we know anything. In the meantime, please see the link below for our school restrictions and safety plan at Level 2.
If you are coming in to the school for any reason, please scan the QR code which are located at the front of each office door entrances. If you need to drop off anything, or catch up with a Vogeltown team member, then please ring the office first.
Date changes
We have had to make a few changes to some of our school events due to Alert Level 2. Please changes these dates in your own calendar:
* School Cross Country will now be on the 2 September
* The Whanau fun run will now be on the 4 September
We will let you know if we need to change or postpone any more events.
Enrolment Scheme and Out of Zone Applications
Early in September the Board of Trustees will be advertising any 2021 available spaces for out of zone students wishing to enrol at Vogeltown. It is very likely that spaces will only be for children turning five and starting school. Please ensure that we have children's names and your contact details on our data base so that we can make contact when the out of zone enrolment process commences. Please note that children living in zone have automatic right of enrolment.
Have a great weekend with your families whanau. Be kind, be safe, be aware.
Aroha nui,
Mr O

VOGELTOWN SCHOOL COMMUNITY WELLBEING SURVEY
We have been doing a lot of work on our staff and learners wellbeing - especially over this year.
We are currently surveying the Taranaki (Junior) learners about their wellbeing and next week we will be surveying the Huatoki (Middle) and Paetoki (Seniors) wellbeing - this will be in the form of an online, anonymous, survey.
We would love to hear how you are doing in the community! If you have a few minutes, could you please complete this community wellbeing survey. This survey is designed by the NZCER (New Zealand Educational research team. The link is below:
PAETOKI SPEECH COMPETITION 2020
What an awesome unit of expressive and persuasive writing we have had already this term. The kids were fantastic at writing a persuasive speech and then having to perform this in front of their peers was amazing!
Because of Covid Level 2 we had to perform the finals of the speech competition via Zoom - this was streamed in to each classroom.
Well done to all the kids involved in the finals, you did an amazing job and Mr George, who was the judge on the day, has spoken to all the kids about their speeches and given them some great feedback.
The winners on the day were:
2nd = Ruby Burns (Rm 12)
2nd = Kace Raven (Rm 9)
1st place (holding the shield) Abigail Williamson (Rm 12)
