SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
Congratulations to CHS’s newly minted Science Olympiad team who attended their first competition last week at Casteel HS. Overall, the team did excellent for their first competition and earned 2nd place in Circuit Lab and 3rd place in Astronomy. Pictured are Macy Winn, Jackson Gordwin, Aryan Mathur, Emily Do, Daniel Labaer, and Holly Hoogstra. The team is coached by Ms. Heather Walterson and Mr. Zach Thiel. Congratulations, Wolves!
STATE CHAMPION WEIGHTLIFTER
Congratulations to CHS Sophomore Rico Quesada, who competed in the Arizona High School Weightlifting Championship this weekend. Rico is the State Champion in his weight class, set All-Time High School Records for his weight class, and won the Best Sophomore Lifter award. His lifts of 212lb (96kg) in Snatch and 273lb (124kg) Clean & Jerk for a Total 485lb (220kg) also end up ranking #2 on the All-Time Performances list!
STUCO CONVENTION
This past weekend Student Council traveled to Buena High School in Sierra Vista to attend the annual Arizona Association of Student Council State Convention. StuCo members were inspired by several keynote speakers to have 20/20 vision as a leader. Students also had a great time networking with over 2000 other student council members from across the state. CHS was awarded the highest award of Outstanding Council of Distinction for the 3rd year in a row. Congratulations, StuCo!

BARRETT-JACKSON EXPERIENCE
Kaylynn Stanley, Robert Hoppenrath, and Jordan Koepnick attended the Barrett-Jackson auction and had the opportunity to join professionals on stage. It was a great experience for the students who are part of Mr. Roger Van Why’s Auto Program.
BC2M AT GCU
CHS’s Bring Change to Mind (BC2M) club members attended the “Speak Up, Stand Up, Save a Life” conference at Grand Canyon University last week to focus on suicide awareness. Ms. Darla Tate, Ms. Sarah Hunter, Ms. Janice Hobbs, and Mr. Michael Gray work closely with the club.

DUAL ENROLLMENT- SPRING REGISTRATION DEADLINE
If your student is planning to take a Dual Enrollment course this spring, the registration deadline is FRIDAY, January 31st. Registration is only necessary if your student is in a course that has a fall and spring semester. If the course is a full-year course, you will not need to register again. If you are unsure if your student’s course is full year or semester, please check the Chandler High Class List. Payment for Dual Enrollment Spring courses is due on Monday, February 10th.

NHS CLOTHES CABIN DRIVE
The National Honor Society Clothes Cabin Committee is conducting its third clothing/hygiene drive of the school year. NHS invites you to bring in donations to help support this need within our community. The drive runs through Wednesday, January 29th. Students can donate during their 2nd hour, and community members are welcome to drop off donations in the front office. Thank you for participating!

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAININGS
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (included ADHD), and eating disorders.
