A Healthy You!
Is your teenager drinking enough water?
Dehydration in teens can contribute to lack of focus, irritability, decreased concentration, headaches, and fatigue. According to a 2015 study conducted by the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, almost one out of every four students did not consume enough water on a given school day. Increasing your teens water intake can help to improve their mood, energy level, skin complexion, and may boost their cognitive function. Reduce or eliminate access to sugary drinks and juices that have no health benefit and contribute to empty calories and replace with milk or water. How much water should your teen drink each day to maintain adequate hydration? Approximately 8-10 cups will meet the needs of most teens. Some fruits and vegetables contain water to help maintain hydration as well. Teens who are active should try and drink ½ cup – 2 cups per 15-20 minutes of physical activity to reduce their risk of dehydration. There are many benefits for helping your teen stay hydrated. Please access this link for more information on teen hydration, Water and your health.
