Knightly Update August 30, 2020
Edition Vol 9 Issue 6
Good morning. Believe it or not, this week marks the mid-point of the first quarter. I have to admit the first few weeks have gone by much faster than I anticipated. Please remember that mid-quarter grades will be posted this Friday. Ensure you review your child's academic progress, and if you have questions, please follow-up with the appropriate instructor. Like I do every week, I visited several virtual classes last week and continue to be impressed with the work our students and teachers are doing. It appears our students are getting more comfortable interacting in a virtual environment each day. Keep up the good work, everyone.
This week, we will engage in our first school-wide ELO day on Wednesday. Additional information and opportunities are included below. Two important reminders that students need to be aware of as they prepare for Wednesday. First, if a teacher assigns a time for students to attend a small group tutoring/enrichment session, they need to attend that session. Second, students must report their attendance for the classes that are scheduled on Wednesday (e.g. periods 1, 3 and 5 this Wednesday) to account for their engagement in the day's opportunities. If students have any questions about Wednesday's attendance, they should reach out to their 1st, 3rd or 5th period teacher on Monday.
Another reminder that mid-quarter grades will be posted on Friday. In addition, please note that we will not have school next Monday, September 7 due to the Labor Day Holiday. I hope you all have a very good week. As always, if you have any questions, please contact me. Go, KNIGHTS!!

Knights in the Spotlight
Hat's off to junior Jennyfer Park! Jennyfer created a project known as, “Together We Can” where she raised money for the Sacred Heart Retreat Center by designing and selling shirts. She worked tirelessly to advertise her shirts over social media and deliver her shirts to those around the city. In under two weeks, all shirts she made were purchased and she raised $1150! By donating 100% of the t-shirt money she was able to help those living in disadvantaged communities. Outstanding job, Jennyfer!
This award is presented by the Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Museum, the Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators (kindergarten through college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.
Congratulations and good luck, Mr. Holley!

Advanced Placement Exams Payment Information
As you prepare to pay for this year's AP exams, please pay for AP exams through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. In addition, please note that this year AP Exam Fees will no longer be tax deductible.
Reasons for change:
- Giving the uncertainties of the 2020-21 school year, some students may feel unsure about taking AP Exams in May. So that students feel comfortable registering by the fall deadline, this year there will be no fees whatsoever if a student decides not to test or cancel their exams. Every AP student should keep their options open by registering for the exam on time because there will still be a $40 fee for late orders.
- Last year, several families utilized tax credit dollars to pay for AP exams.
- Qualifying tax-credit fee payments are not refundable. As a result, of last year's unusual circumstances (i.e., changes in AP Testing, refund process, etc.) we were not allowed to offer full refunds to our families. This was a benefit we offered for several years.
- Solution: Since these qualifying tax-credit fee payments are non-refundable, we do not want to place our families in this difficult position. As a result, AP payments will not be listed as a tax-deductible item. This will allow families that decide not to take the AP exam a more efficient refund process in the event a student chooses to cancel an exam.
Please contact Mr. Vezzosi for questions regarding AP Exams you have selected at (480) 424-8080. If you have questions regarding payments or paying with tax credit options, please email Mrs. Arceo or call (480) 424-8014.
In addition, please make sure that you are aware of the following information and deadlines below.
- August 19, 2020 - Begin making payments for AP test(s)
- October 26, 2020 - All AP exam payments due ($95.00 per test)
As a reminder, If you are a student in an AP class, you should have already received your class-specific join codes, joined your AP Classroom, and created an AP account. Remember, students that already have AP accounts (most sophomores-seniors) should utilize the same account information from previous years. Teachers have posted AP information in their CLASS STREAM or ANNOUNCEMENT SECTION of the Google Classrooms.
If you are a continuing AP student, please use the account that you have previously created to access AP classroom and register for test(s). If you taking AP Government or AP Economics second semester, you will register in January. Please visit our ACP Counseling website for more information. If you have questions, reach out to your teacher or Dr. Vezzosi.

- To do so, go to www.loucoopey.com then click on the large red banner across the top to book your appointment. To ensure the safety of all seniors we have put in place new COVID protocols for the photo session.
- Social distancing, masks, and hand sanitizing will be required of all customers and staff. All procedures will be as contact-free as possible.
- Dressing rooms, rest rooms and seating areas will be closed to the public.
- Only seniors, six at a time, with appointments will be permitted to enter the studio. No one else may accompany them.
- All studio services beyond the sitting: scheduling, ordering and paying fees will be conducted online.
- A $40 deposit will be collected at the time of scheduling. This, along with a $10 complimentary coupon will be applied to each account, giving each senior a $50 credit toward the purchase of portraits and services. All seniors will take a sitting and standing picture that will both be in the yearbook. Boys must be in business casual or formal attire wearing pants and a button-up shirt. Jacket and tie are optional. Girls may be in slacks, a skirt or a dress no shorter than knee-length. Tops cannot be off the shoulder or spaghetti strap. You may not bring props or pets to your photo session due to the current restrictions of COVID-19.
