Message from Mrs. Williams
This week's Ranger Ready skill is Decision-making. Decision-making is a crucial skill that extends beyond the classroom, influencing various aspects of our children's lives. Here are some practical ways you can support your child in developing effective decision-making skills at home:
- Encourage Open Communication: Foster an environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their thoughts, concerns, and ideas. Open communication lays the foundation for understanding the factors influencing decisions and seeking guidance when needed.
- Offer Choices: Provide age-appropriate opportunities for your child to make choices. This could involve decisions about their extracurricular activities, what to wear, or what book to read. Offering choices empowers them to practice decision-making in a controlled setting.
- Discuss Consequences: Help your child understand that every decision has consequences—both positive and negative. Engage in conversations about potential outcomes, encouraging them to consider the impact of their choices on themselves and others.
- Problem-Solving Activities: Engage in problem-solving activities together. This could involve working on puzzles, playing strategic games, or tackling challenges that require critical thinking. Such activities enhance their decision-making abilities in a fun and interactive way.
- Model Decision-Making: Children often learn by observing. Model effective decision-making by discussing your own thought processes when faced with choices. Demonstrate how to weigh options, consider consequences, and make informed decisions.
- Teach Time Management: Help your child manage their time effectively. Establish routines, set priorities, and assist them in planning their schedules. Learning to allocate time wisely contributes to the development of strong decision-making skills.
- Celebrate Responsible Choices: Acknowledge and celebrate instances when your child makes responsible and thoughtful choices. Positive reinforcement reinforces the importance of making decisions aligned with their values and goals.
By incorporating these practices at home, we can collectively empower our students to become confident decision-makers. Your involvement and support play a crucial role in fostering this essential life skills.
Thank you for your partnership in nurturing well-rounded individuals.

Indiana Youth First Survey
6th-grade Parents ONLY
Cedar Crest will administer the Indiana Youth Survey to all 6th-graders during the week of February 14th. This is a survey to help gather data on adolescent substance use, mental health, and risk and protective factors that can impact student success. This survey is completely voluntary and is confidential. Please complete the following form to indicate your preferences.
If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation, please contact at cassie.williams@sedubois.k12.in.us. Thank you.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Mrs. Audrey Fleck, who will be supporting students in the social work role previously held by Mrs. Kreilein here at CCI. Audrey will be joining us on Tuesday mornings and will be with us all day on Fridays. We are excited to have her on board for the remainder of the school year!
For those of you who do not already know Audrey, she is a school social worker at Forest Park Jr./Sr. High School. Starting in 2015, Audrey has worn many hats in her role at FP, and we are very fortunate to have her joining us at CCI.
Audrey plans to start with us on Tuesday, February 13!
Volunteer Opportunity: Help Supervise Students on Valentine's Day!
On Wednesday, February 14th, we are planning to give our dedicated teachers and staff a well-deserved duty-free lunch so they can enjoy a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation during the school day. To make this possible, we are seeking volunteers to help supervise students during lunch and recess periods.
We invite parents who are available and willing to lend a hand to sign up for a volunteer slot using our SignUpGenius link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4EA9AB22A3F9C34-47804393-recess. This will be an excellent opportunity for parents to get involved, interact with students, and support our school community.
Please note that all volunteers must have an up-to-date background check on file with Southeast Dubois County Schools. Ensuring a safe and secure environment for our students is our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
Your participation will allow our teachers and staff to enjoy a well-deserved break knowing that their students are in good hands. Thank you in advance for your support and willingness to help make Valentine's Day special for everyone at our school.
Reimagining the Renaissance: Students Channel Michelangelo
Ms. Sitzman and Mr. Bilderback's social studies classes take the Renaissance seriously. To "feel" part of the lesson and the importance of art from the period, students created their version of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. To simulate the "masters" experience, they designed and "painted" their masterpieces using the underside of their work surface (the chapel's ceiling) while reclining on their backs...just as Michelangelo reportedly did back in the 1500s.
