Hurricane Makeup Days
- November 4, 2022
- November 18, 2022
- December 2, 2022
- January 6, 2023
This approved plan provides for the correct number of hours and minutes needed to meet statutory requirements and preserves the Thanksgiving week holiday for staff, students, and families. It also preserves the three days before winter break (December 19, 20, and 21, 2022) as exam days/early dismissal days for students. Of course, please be advised that any other storms this hurricane season that result in time away from school could potentially impact the identified hurricane make-up days on the calendar.

Arrival
As a reminder, the car loop gates close at 8:15. If they are closed, please drive your student to the front office and sign them in. Students should never be dropped off in the car loop once the gate is closed. There is no monitored entry on that side of the building, therefore it is a safety issue leaving students after the gate is closed.

Helping Those in Need
Dear Surfside Family,
In times of crisis, one thing that always remains consistent for children is school. Though our school and community suffered minimal damage, others were not so lucky.
We have reached out to three schools on the west coast (Fort Myers Elementary School, Fort Myers High School and Lehigh Senior High School) who have not only been impacted beyond imagine by the destruction of Hurricane Ian but also are the alma mater for some of our teachers and staff here at Surfside.
We will be holding a donation drive through October 31st, with a community wide drop off day on Saturday, November 5 from 8-11 at Surfside, as a way of doing our part to support our fellow Floridians in their times of need. Students are able to bring donations to school during this window, where there will be a designated area for them to drop their items off at. These students and teachers lost everything, from books and school supplies, to their homes and valuables. We are hoping to collect items such as new clothing (all seasons and all ages, both children and adult), hygiene products, toys, books, classroom supplies, non-perishable food, and water.
We hope that you will consider donating and using this opportunity to show your student what it means to come together and support those in their time of need.
Thank you so much for your consideration and ongoing support.

Art Fundraiser
This semester, our school is participating in a unique fundraising program with Art to Remember that gives you the opportunity to purchase keepsake items with your child's artwork on them. The best part is that every keepsake order supports our school.
Orders placed by October 28, 2022 will get free shipping to the school and delivered by November 30, 2022. If you order after October 28, 2022, you will have to pay to have your items shipped to your home.

Technology Reminders
More and more students are coming to school with smart watches. Watches that take photos/videos, text and make phone calls should also be powered down and stored away in backpacks. These would be considered a cell phone and a contract should be completed for these as well.
Anyone not adhering to the procedures will be asked not to bring technology to school, and disciplinary action may be taken. Thank you for your support with this.
Breakfast and Lunch
If your child will be buying lunch, please make sure they have money in their account by visiting www.MyPaymentsPlus.com. You will need your child’s student ID in order to sign up for an account. If you need this, you can find it in FOCUS.
Parent Lunches on Campus
We have loved seeing parents back on campus for lunch! Thank you for following the procedures and coming prepared with blankets and chairs. We will be refining the process as we go along to make it as smooth as possible. One thing that would be greatly beneficial is having table umbrellas for the tables on the patio. Two of them specifically get a lot of sun. If you have an extra gently used umbrella lying around or would like to donate a new one, we would love to have it here on campus.
___________________________________________________________________________________________
We are excited to have parents back on campus for lunch! As we ease back into being open for lunches, we will only have availability one day per week. Per school board policy, all visitors must be escorted at all times while on campus. If you are a visitor, we invite you to have lunch, but you may only be within the designated lunch space. Within the space, we have room for two parents per class. Due to limited availability, we ask that you ONLY sign up for one spot this month. We want as many children to have the opportunity to eat with a parent as possible. Thank you for your grace and flexibility as we work through this.
Seating: Parents will eat with students on the patio and in the grassy area between first and second grade classrooms. We will NOT have enough seats for all parents. Please plan to bring a blanket or camping chair to sit in. This will be an outdoor picnic-style lunch that we know the kids will enjoy!
Reminders:
- Include your child's name in the comment section when you sign up. This will help our team locate your in the volunteer system prior to arriving.
- Parents need to bring a camping chair or blanket for the picnic-style lunch.
- Parents must be on time for their child’s scheduled lunch time.
- Parents must communicate with their child’s teacher that they will be coming to lunch on that day.
- Parents must sign in at the front office with a valid license and their child will meet them in the designated lunch space at the beginning of the lunch period.
- Parents will be escorted to the lunch location and supervised if they are not a registered volunteer. Registered volunteers do not need to be escorted or supervised during their lunch.
- Parents may only have lunch with their child.
- Please be mindful of time; your child will need to report back to the cafeteria before the end of their lunch period to line up with their class. Parents will sign out in the front office.
