The Weekly Hoot
June 25 - July 1, 2018
Greetings All -
I hope you all are having a great week! As I typed the date at the top of the Hoot, I was totally shocked that it is almost already July!!! What???? That is so hard to believe!
We have had a busy week here at school. It has been Corzine's last week before she is off for the summer so she has been finishing up all of the last "to-dos" that needed to be done before she gets a well-deserved break. Laney will be here next week for testing and then she is gone. I am going to be hit or miss at school during July, so if you need to come up and see us, please do it next week.
Speaking of coming up and seeing us, the custodial and maintenance department has asked if we could just "have a summer" for about three weeks and not come up and work in our rooms. They are about halfway through with waxing (yellow hall rooms and hallway, new blue rooms and hallway, and green hall rooms have all been waxed), but it is so much easier if they can just get in there and get it done. So I told them we could certainly "get out of their way" (my words, not theirs) for a little while. Beginning on Friday, June 29, please enjoy your summer until Friday, July 20 and don't come up to school! :) Hopefully, when you come back, all floors will be waxed and furniture back into classrooms. I know that people will be coming up for story hour or up to the office, but please don't plan on working in your rooms during this time. That way everything can get done. Also, if you have changed rooms and you have instructions about where to put furniture in your classroom, please send that email to me and I will pass it along in Eduphoria. We have a lot to do, but before it can be done, we need to give the custodians and Lee time to get their part done. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation with this.
This week, master schedule has been a top priority. It is 90% done. I just have to work out a few details. I feel like next week I will be able to share it with everyone and let the questions begin. :)
As you all know, Canizaro's old room is going to be used as a flex room this year. Classes will be able to go in there when it is wet outside, etc... It will also hold all of our Guided Reading books and math manipulatives for you all to use.
Last week our STAAR scores for 3rd-5th grade came in and we did a great job! We are at or near state average on every test!!! Below, please find a link that will let you see our STAAR scores compared to state averages. As we well know, these scores belong to all of us, so pat yourselves on the back or look and see where you can help to make these scores improve.

Question for this week... tell me what you think about our grading practices and grading policy. What do you think about reteach/retest? What do you think about standards-based vs. numerical grades? Tell me where you think we can improve and let me know what you think we are doing right. I am not looking to upset the whole apple cart at all. I just want opinions because I hear about this a lot from both teachers and parents.
Lastly, don't forget to send me pictures of your summer adventures (text it to my email address please!) I want to share it with all of you on the Hoot! For some reason, the galleries are double posting below and there are some empty slots, but I still want to send them out so you can keep up with everyone! :)
Whew! I think that is it for now! Everyone have a great week! Enjoy this great, HOT summertime weather! I am leaving in the morning for a trip I earned through Initial Outfitters to Biloxi, Mississippi. A little beach time, a little pool time, a little casino time. Just my kind of trip!`
Love to all -
