ROOM 10 NEWS
Mrs. Yeagle's Third Grade Class
Pumpkin Day was a success and a lot of fun! Third graders gathered qualitative and quantitative data on various types of pumpkins. After acquiring their data, students analyzed and created generalizations about pumpkin size and seed relations.
We started Unit 2 in Math. This unit involves relating multiplication to addition, the connection between multiplication and division, and representing multiplication and division in different models.
In Reading, students have been finding "evidence" in articles to support main ideas and opinion statements. Going back the the text or passage to prove one's point is an important skill in third grade and beyond.
This quarter, students will be writing Informational pieces. Right now they are narrowing down their idea and facts on their "expert" topic of choice. Later in the quarter, third graders will research and write on a different topic of choice.
Monday started Second Quarter and in Room 10 we held a class meeting to reflect on academics and behaviors. During the meeting, students celebrated how we have grown as a class and things we may need to work on. The class decided to celebrate their growth in Writing and that their bathroom breaks have become more efficient. After much thought and consideration, students decided their class goals for Second Quarter would be to work more diligently during AR time and speed up transitions. I like when the class comes up with their celebrations and goals. It really makes them take ownership.
