One of the new buzz words going around in education circles is Blended Learning. Blended learning is a formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through delivery of content and instruction via digital and online media with some element of student control over time, place, path, or pace. At OKE we have two excellent resources for accomplishing blended learning: Scootpad and USA Testprep.
Scootpad can be used by students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Students can work on their own(differientiated) self-paced and fully automated learning path which aligns to Common Core Standards. Teachers can design individual or group learning paths OR teachers can make assignments on specific standards. Scootpad can be used independently during small group instruction and/or for homework.
USA Testprep is designed for students in 3rd through 5th grade and is aligned to Common Core State Standards. USATestprep empowers teachers to tailor a Learning Pathway to the needs of their students - a unique strategy that integrates diagnostic assessments, individualized learning, and classroom support.
Both of these resources have been purchased through Title 1 funds. The expectation is that teachers use these tools to help meet the needs of our diverse learners. If you have questions or concerns, please let me know. I will be happy to assist you in any way possible.

Spelling Bee Information
You must use Scripps National Spelling Bee words
The spelling bee is conducted in rounds. Each speller remaining in the spelling bee at the start of a round spells one word in each round.
The pronouncer may offer word information- without the speller having requested the information, if the pronouncer senses that the information is helpful and the information presented in the entry for the word in the 2016 word list.
· The speller makes and effort to face the judges
· Pronounce the word before and after spelling it
· The speller may ask the judge to say the word again, use it in a sentence or provide the part of speech.
Speller activities that do not merit disqualification:
· Failing to pronounce the word either before or after spelling it
· Asking a question
· For noting or failing to note the capitalization of a word
End- of- bee procedure:
· If all spellers in a round misspell the words incorrectly
· If only one speller in a round spells correctly or answers a vocabulary question correctly, a new round begins
Ties
· You may opt to conduct tiebreakers (of your own design)
