Technology, Social Media, and Kids
Technology and Social Media are playing an increasingly larger part in our students’ lives. It is important that both parents and teachers have set up safety protocols for online use. At Park Hill there are district-wide filters set up in addition to student computers being monitored through a program accessed by teachers and administrators to ensure student’s online safety. At the beginning of the school year students sign a contract that lists how to appropriately use and take care of their district monitored computer. It is a good idea to have a similar plan with your kids at home for personal devices.
Here are some Internet Safety Tips and reminders.
- Discuss internet safety with your kids and have a safety plan. Set clear guidelines and let them know to come to you if they see something online that is upsetting, scary or dangerous.
- Supervise use of the internet. It is encouraged to periodically monitor their accounts and posts online. Having a central location to ‘turn in’ devices to charge overnight will help not only set screen time limits, but ensure you have access to their devices.
- Review games, apps and social media sites BEFORE your kids download or use them. There are parent controls that can be set up so you can approve or deny any app they want to download. Making sure they sites they are using are age appropriate will increase their safety online.
- Adjust Privacy Settings and use Parental Controls on all devices.
- Teach your children NOT to share personal information on the computer.
- Consider setting screen time limits or having a ‘contract’ like the one found here for internet usage. Youth Pledge

Service Project for 4th Quarter
Tiffany Ridge Students! Let’s help our local Ronald McDonald House by collecting pop-tabs during the month of May!! Please collect your tabs and bring them to TR and deposit them in the front hallway. Let’ see how much TR students and families can raise to help kids and families in KC!
Love Pops Out All Over!
At Ronald McDonald House, love comes in all shapes and sizes. Love is made out of chocolate, flowers, pop-tabs, diamond rings. Wait a minute! Pop-tabs? Those aluminum rings on beverage and food cans? How on earth do pop-tabs support Ronald McDonald House? What can you do with a pop-tab?
Why Pop-Tabs?
Pop-tabs remind us of an important lesson: even little things make a big difference. We collect pop-tabs for three reasons: (1) Recycling is good for the environment. (2) Pop-tabs help pay the bills. In 2019, we recycled more than 16 tons and raised more than $14,000 from the aluminum proceeds. (3) Pop-tabs are friend-finders. Pop-tabs are worth more than the entire can because they are made of higher quality aluminum. Collecting pop-tabs is a popular volunteer opportunity that benefits RMH families and is easy to organize. Look at our website for more pop-tab information: https://rmhckc.org/how-you-can-help/poptabs/
Due to funding from a federal program, we were able to supply free meals to all children ages 18 and under for the past two years. That program is ending on the last day of school. After the last day of school, we can no longer provide universal free meals or bulk frozen meal kits.
This means students attending summer school will need to pay for breakfast and lunch, or they can bring their own food. Families who think they might qualify for free and reduced meals should apply for these benefits. If you applied for the 2021-2022 school year, you do not need to reapply for summer school, and you can check with our social worker, Gayle Laney, or our Nutrition Services department if you are unsure.
The application for the 2021-2022 school year and 2022 summer school will extend to the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year, and then eligible families will need to reapply to receive the meal benefits for the remainder of the upcoming school year.
If your child is eligible for free and reduced meal benefits and you apply, you can also receive additional benefits like fee waivers, activity scholarships, free screenings, school supplies and more. You can find more information on our website: https://www.parkhill.k12.mo.us/families/menus-and-nutrition/free-and-reduced-meals
