We Sure Did Treasure This Week!
Pirates
The theme of the week was pirates! We made pirate faces with bandanas and eye patches, decorated treasure chests, put feathers on parrots, made hooks by ripping and gluing tin foil, and traced lines and shapes around pirate ships. We also counted gold coins and practiced prepositions by putting pirates in, on, behind, in front, and next to the treasure chest. We celebrated Alice's birthday on Tuesday - happy birthday Alice!
Throughout the week, we played pirates in the dramatic play area with our friends from Room 4. We took turns riding in the boat, walking the plank, searching for treasure, and fishing. On Thursday, we went on a big treasure hunt throughout the school. We each got our own treasure map, and we followed the path on the map around the playground, across the grass, and up the stairs. We eventually made it to the red X in Room 10 where we found hidden treasure!
This week, speech rotations were all about practicing following directions with direction/position concepts. We sang along to "Preposition Rock," and used our listening skills to follow the directions involving different positions to place the beanbag (e.g., on our head, between our feet, under our chin, etc.). Then we read a story with animals, identified each animal, and talked about where the animals were (e.g., the pig is under the umbrella). We finished up with a direction/position game which involved putting animals in a variety of places (e.g., in the bucket, on the stroller, under the hat, etc.). We also had corresponding visuals to help us with this task if it was too difficult.
