March 26 AP Connect Session Registration Now Open

With AP exams right around the corner the March and April sessions will help students prepare for their AP exams. Students will have an opportunity to take practice exams and have study sessions over commonly missed items on the test. This is a great opportunity for students to get extra support to help them score successfully on their exam.

High school students who score successfully can save on college expenses because most colleges and universities nationwide offer college credit for qualifying AP Exam scores.

Check out specific colleges’ guidelines on accepting AP scores for credit..

Computer Science Education Grants Awarded to ESD 112 and Camas School District

This month Washington STEM, in partnership with Washington’s Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), announced the first round of $4 million in grants to statewide schools, school districts, educational service districts, higher education institutions, nonprofits, and community based organizations to support computer science education.

The competitive grants will make it possible for the ESD and Camas School District to provide professional development for teachers, obtain technology, and expand computer science course offerings and programs. Grant recipients must have partnered with private organizations and individuals to be eligible for the grant from OSPI. Because the STEM Network has partnered with the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Clark County to put on the education component of the Digital Technology Expo the ESD has been able to leverage that event as part of the private match. Thanks you GVCC and Leadership Clark County for supporting the network which helped ESD112 secure the $500,000 Computer Science Grant for our students in SW Washington!

WASHINGTON FIRST ROBOTICS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY

Washington FIRST® Robotics has introduced thousands of students to Computer Science (CS) through its series of Robotics competitions, including 600 FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) teams this year alone. Most teams are afterschool clubs, which can limit access for traditionally under-represented CS /STEM students. To help drive CS/STEM equity statewide, Robotics needs to be a daytime classroom offering, enabling under-represented students to envision CS/STEM as a part of their future before they enter high school. Washington FIRST Robotics was awarded a $75K OSPI igrant recently to facilitate professional development for elementary and middle school teachers between April-June, 2016 in five locations across Washington State (Kent, Olympia, Spokane, Vancouver, Wapato). We would encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity. Please see this link to reserve your training today.
