EARLY PICK UP REMINDER
If you need to pick up your child before the end of the school day, please pick them up no later than 2:15 (1:15 on Wednesdays). The buses arrive in front of school no later than 2:30 (and 1:30 on Wednesday). Coming no later than 2:15 will ensure the pickup will not interfere with the bus arrival and the beginning of our dismissal process. We appreciate your understanding.
MISSING A DISH FROM THE COMMUNITY POTLUCK DINNER?
If you are missing a dish from the Commuity Potluck Dinner last Thursday night, we may have it here at CCS. Please stop by or call the main office (425-2771) with a description and if we have it, we can send it home with your child.
LOST AND FOUND
The Lost and Found is already overflowing. Please stop by to check or have your child(ren) check the front lobby vestibule for any missing items. All items will be donated MONTHLY. We simply do not have the space to keep items for longer periods of time. Current items will be donated by the end of the day Friday, October 7th.
ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends, Families and Community Members,
A stroll through the school this week evidenced learning of all sorts, from cursive to concept maps; perception scales to graphing and reading strategies; from identifying examples of direct and indirect characterization in a novel to identifying cell parts and function…and even a unit on failure and success!
Students looked dapper this week as they arrived for picture day, and on the heels of last week’s open house, it’s been wonderful to see families as they’ve begun to trickle in for parent conferences. Having both new and familiar family and caregiver faces back in the building has truly been one of the gifts of this fall.
Bus Safety
This week, students participated in bus evacuation drills. We would like to thank Dianna Fletcher, CCS Lead Bus Driver, for leading each class through the drill and discussing overall bus safety with them. As a school, we plan to review universal expectations for behavior on buses, including the ways in which we take care of ourselves, others and this place on the bus. If your student is a bus rider, we encourage you to discuss as a family the importance of safe bus behavior:
We take care of ourselves:
- Report any unsafe or unkind behavior
- Stay in your seat and assigned area
- Remain seated when bus is moving
We take care of others:
- Keep hands and feet to yourself
- Keep the aisle clear
- Use quiet and respectful words
- Follow ALL bus driver directions and safety rules
- Stand up for each other
- Leave your space cleaner than you found it
- Use equipment and furniture appropriately
- Report damage or problems
- Reduce, Re-use, Recycle
Lockdown Practice
As indicated in last week’s newsletter, we held our first lockdown drill of the year this week. During the drill, teachers led students through developmentally-appropriate conversations about what it means to stay safe during one of these drills. Our intention was for the experience to be a low-pressure learning opportunity, and every single classroom did an amazing job following directions. We want to acknowledge our teachers for facilitating these conversations and helping to make our students feel safe at school.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Kind regards,
Jen, Courtney and Beth

CCS BASKETBALL COACHES NEEDED
CCS Community,
Charlotte Central School has open positions for the upcoming basketball season. The Girls B team (6th-8th Grade) and the Boys B Team (6th-8th Grade) have coaching vacancies. The season officially begins November 14th and runs through the middle of February. There are no practices during the school vacations. We are looking for enthusiastic coaches who are willing to teach and guide our middle schoolers into becoming better basketball players, as well as teach life skills of being a part of a team. If you or anyone you know has interest in learning more about the position, please contact CCS Athletic Director, Nicky Elderton Nelderton@cvsdvt.org
Thanks,
Nicky Elderton
PTO STUDENT DIRECTORY
We are getting ready to start work on the PTO Student Directory. This is an OPT OUT directory. Information included in the CCS PTO Student Directory includes: Student Name, Classroom Teacher, Grade, Home/Mailing Address, 1 Parent/Guardian Phone Number, up to 2 Parent or Guardian email.
If you do not want your personally identifiable information (PII) included in this directory, please fill out your PowerSchool Annual Permission Form or email Naomi Strada, nstrada@cvsdvt.org by Monday, October 10th.
POWERSCHOOL ANNUAL UPDATES
Please do NOT fill out the annual transportation form. Now that school is once again in session, simply write a note to your child(ren)'s teacher or call/email the front office. We want to make sure that we receive this information in as timely a manner as possible.
Please continue to update the annual contact, permissions, and health forms. We do still need this information to be updated and accurate As Soon As Possible. As of today, we reached 66% of forms filled out. This information is critical for us to maintain healthy and safe schools and to keep our lines of communication with you open.
WHAT DO YOU ENVISION FOR CVSD SCHOOLS?
We want every member of our community to be included as we design CVSD's strategic plan for the next 5 years. You are invited to help identify our shared values and priorities. The upcoming Community Forums and the accompanying survey are the first steps in that direction. We invite you to join us at any of the Strategic Planning Community Forums and you may use this survey link to share your thoughts. https://bit.ly/CVSDOct22.

Results will help us evaluate current programs and plan new ways to support youth and families in our area. If you have any questions about this survey, please reach out to Amy Sayre at asayre@cvsdvt.org or 802-482-6290.
