Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
Happy Friday, Mill Creek!
I want to take a moment to recognize some of the outstanding instruction that is happening in classrooms every day at Mill Creek. This awesome education can easily be taken for granted with the plethora of items that can grab our attention these days, but we want to make sure you get a glimpse into the outstanding work of our teachers and support staff, as well as how hard your children are working each day! The photos below are some examples, which include:
- Ms. Kralik's 3rd grade students distinguishing forms of literature and their purpose.
- Ms. Alderfer's 5th grade students learning about the importance of primary colors and how they impact every other color we see.
- Ms. Aptacy's 2nd grade students holding a class election with animal candidates. Tiger came out on top!
- Ms. Angelo's 5th grade students burying various items, which they will unearth in the spring to examine decomposition rates.
- Ms. McMullan's Kindergarten students learning about the 5 senses.
- Mr. Losch's band students beginning to learn how to play "drum line style."
- Mr. Hartigan's 2nd grade students showing him how much they know about the days of the week.
- Ms. Fitzmaurice's 6th grade students analyzing their class book, Hatchet.
Thank you to our amazing teachers, staff, and students!

From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
Nearly every day, I send the Mill Creek Teachers and Staff a positive email, which I hope inspires their day. This past Wednesday, Veterans Day, I sent a morning message to them that I feel is worth sharing with the larger Mill Creek Community. Below is the gist of that message...
I imagine most if not all of us have some connection to a military veteran. Whether you served, a family member served, or a close acquaintance served, I think we would all agree that it is quite a sacrifice… and an honor… to wear a military uniform. Those who serve knowingly take time away from their families for the benefit of our entire citizenry. I view military service as one of the most selfless acts one can perform.
I also believe that, whether one serves in the military or not, we have an obligation, as educators and parents, to teach our students/children the importance of right versus wrong, doing good in our community/country/world, and standing up for core values. Parents, teachers, and support educators all play an important role in meeting this obligation every day.
So, with the recent recognition of Veterans Day, be sure to thank veterans for their service and continue to cultivate values of righteousness and goodness in our children.
Have a great weekend!
Mr. John C. Murtha
Assistant Principal
