November 22nd Embed Grammar in Reading
November 28th Using a Close Read (sentence level) to build fluency
Self-Reflect
1. Do you have 120 minutes for reading? (is it dedicated to reading?)
2. Do you have 90 minutes of math?
3. Are you encouraging and increasing student to student interaction? Holding students accountable to speak in complete sentences?
4. Are students increasing their ability to formulate complete sentences?
5. Grades 2-5: Are you considering text complexity and increasing rigor in reading expectations?
6. Are you increasing vocabulary instruction and exposure?
**I SEE TONS OF EXAMPLES OF THESE THINGS AS I GO THROUGH THE CLASSROOMS. THANKS FOR BEING INTENTIONAL IN MAKING SURE THESE THING ARE PRESENT.
Planning Days
Please make sure the following happen:
Look at ELA standards (check sheet) and mark off what has been taught. Make a long range ELA plan for the next 9 weeks. All Reading informational and literature as well as language standards should have been directly taught at least once by the end of the first semester. This does not mean to mastery but definitely touched on and modeled. ELA standards spiral. What skills need to be taught for the nine weeks and lay out a rough sketch of a plan. (I will make sure you have an ELA curriculum check off sheet)
Review your intervention plan to make sure all students needs are being served. Interventions HAVE to be outside the core instruction which makes that 120 minutes vital.
