A+ Peer Helping and Northland Career Center's Teaching Professions Students Assist/Learn in Our Classrooms

A+ Peer Helping and Northland Career Center's Teaching Professions Students Assist/Learn in Our Classrooms

PCHS students enrolled in the class "Peer Helping" are working to gain 50 hours of tutoring to fulfill one of the requirements to qualify for an A+ Scholarship. This scholarship provides students the opportunity to continue their education at a Missouri community college or trade school after high school graduation, with two years of tuition mostly covered by this scholarship. More than 100 PCHS students are enrolled in Peer Helping each semester, and Platte County High School has thirty-three students helping in our classrooms this semester. Students are required to complete two hours of training, sign a contract of expectations, and complete leadership writing prompts with our PCHS A+ Coordinator, Bev Hartland.

Students in Northland Career Center's Teaching Professions program also earn valuable experience through immersion by leading and assisting with lessons in our schools. Thirty-three NCC Teaching Professions juniors and seniors are joining classrooms at Great Beginnings Preschool, Siegrist Elementary, and Platte City Middle School to gain knowledge and skills necessary to become successful teachers. These students are creating and facilitating small-group activities to support learning, and teach some whole-group lessons collaboratively with their cooperating teacher. Teaching Professions students will spend one full semester within a classroom, watching and learning from their cooperating teacher and others. They began their internship in September and will continue until winter break. Students will then begin a new internship with a different school at the beginning of the second semester in order to receive a well-rounded, enriching teaching experience.

Keep Up to Date with your Child's Grades via Parent Portal

The End of 1st Quarter is October 11. Have you been keeping tabs on how your child is doing in his/her classes? Parents can use Parent Portal to keep up to date on grades, attendance, lunch account balances and more!

Check out the Guide to Parent Portal for instructions on how to use this student and parent information system.

NOTE: The “Assignments” and “Grades” tiles in Parent Portal aren’t used as frequently by elementary parents (grades K-5), as by secondary parents (grades 6-12). Elementary progress under the Grades tile is shown as standards-based progress as reported on quarterly report cards.

You can log onto Parent Portal by visiting plattecountyschooldistrict.com and clicking on the “Grades” icon at the top of any page. You can also download the Tyler SIS Student 360 app on your mobile device.

If you haven’t signed up for Parent Portal, contact your child’s school:

Bullying and Safety Concerns

Safety is one of our district’s top priorities and to help safeguard our school community, our district is now using SafeSchools Alert, a tip reporting service that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.

You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through SafeSchools Alert.

Every tip SafeSchools Alert receives about our district is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. And, tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer.

Together, using SafeSchools Alert, we can make our district a safer place to learn!
