VAA July Updates
Faith. Scholarship. Purpose.
VAA Fall Re-Opening Plans
In our last newsletter, we announced that we are planning to open August 31st, offering on-site learning 5 days a week for all students. We have sent our plan to VCPE and our local health department - both said we are in compliance with the Governor’s guidance for K-12 schools. We have attached our detailed plan to this newsletter; however, here is some helpful information below:
School-wide
We will be implementing health and safety protocols, such as, daily temperature checks, COVID questionnaires, increased and routine cleaning, social distancing, PPE for staff, etc.
Masks
Our hope is to be able to offer on-site learning without interruption. Multiple cases among our student body could cause us to have to close for a short period of time. So, with the guidance of the CDC, our local health department, and Governor Northam, we will mandate masks for our faculty and staff, and strongly encourage masks for all students.
Upper School
To keep our students safe and adhere to social distancing, as a school, we need to utilize our largest spaces. Our auditorium seats over 1000 people, and with our upper school being 200, we plan to have our students separated by grade level and homerooms, sitting 6ft apart, with partitions to enhance safety. Teachers will rotate into their classrooms to record lessons then upload those lessons to Google Classroom for students to be able to access both onsite and for distance learning, but will primarily be available to help students with their work. Those teachers not recording will be in the auditorium to assist students with assignments. It will be mandatory for students to have a device and headphones this year in order to access those lessons. If a student is struggling with work, teachers will be available (real-time) to help them.
We will also have smaller learning environments for teachers to utilize for traditional teaching, both inside and outdoors.
Students will rotate through a recess, lunch, PE, and fine art elective to break up the school day.
Lower School
We will be strategically utilizing large spaces in our building to safely accommodate our enrolled students. Students will be placed 6 feet apart in the classroom and travel around the building will be limited. Otherwise, elementary programming will continue as normal with enrichments, engaging lesson, and lots of learning and fun!
Preschool
Have you re-enrolled yet?
We have opened an additional section of 1st and 3rd grade due to increased interest.
