Tours and Scavenger Hunts
Hilliard Elementary 5th grade students were on campus at Hilliard-Senior High Friday, March 4, 2022, for a tour and scavenger hunt. They made their way by the cafeteria, gym, classrooms and made a stop in the library to vote on what makes them the most excited about coming to 6th grade. Check out the link below to follow their adventures. Thank you to Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Jarrett for putting together a great tour and the seniors for being great tour guides!
Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance
"The Amelia" Hagerty, the new owner of the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, arranged a Supercar Parade on March 4, 2022, at Fernandina Beach Middle School and Fernandina Beach High School bus loop. Students were invited to walk up close to each of the cars on display and ask the owners of these supercars.
Mixing Paint
The Pre-K students at Hilliard Elementary have been learning about colors. They had so much fun mixing primary paint colors to make "new (secondary) colors."
Warrior Run Fun
The students at Callahan Intermediate enjoyed much fun and motivating events while prepping for their Warrior Run. The students threw pies at Mr. Seeley, silly stringed Coach Brayton, water ballooned Dr. Thompson, and enjoyed Officer Caldwell wearing a tutu.
Pirate Art
Mrs. Hall's art students at Fernandina Beach Middle designed then built armatures for papier-mache sculptures based on the art-historical style of Surrealism.
A Day on the Ranch
Kindergarteners at Wildlight Elementary enjoyed their first field trip to Diamond D Ranch in Jacksonville! Students learned about farm animals throughout their trip. Students rode ponies, took a wagon hayride, and even got to feed cows, fish, and goats!
Read Across America
Dr. Burns came to Mrs. Wheeler’s 2nd-grade class at Callahan Elementary as a guest reader for Read Across America week. The students enjoyed hearing her read No David and Those Shoes. Dr. Burns inspired all of us to be lifelong readers!
Game Night
Yulee Elementary hosted a game show themed STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math) parents night. Hornet families could come and participate in some of their favorite game shows as they review some of the content their students have been learning all year.
Northeast Florida Regional Braille Challenge
Nassau County braille readers attended the Northeast Florida Regional Braille Challenge held at the Vision Education and Resource Center at Florida State College at Jacksonville. Students with visual impairments from surrounding counties attended Braille Challenge to show off their braille skills and compete against each other. Students were asked to demonstrate spelling, reading comprehension, and proofreading in braille. The theme of the event was "The Sound of Braille Music." When they weren't competing, students had the opportunity to explore instruments, make instruments of their own, read braille music, and participate in a drum circle. Daxx won 1st place, a $75 gift card in the Apprentice Category, PJ Garbarini won 2nd place, a $50 gift card in Jon's Readers category, and Hartley Ray won 1st place $100 gift card in the Sophomore Category.
"A" Celebration
Callahan Intermediate celebrated their “A” school recognition with a luncheon at Cottonwood Ranch. The faculty and staff enjoyed fellowship, food, and games.
