Mrs. Newman's Classroom Newsletter
ELA/Science
In Science we have begun our unit on weather and climate. This week our main focus is to determine what exactly weather and climate are. We will discuss how they are alike and different as well as the many different factors that affect climate and weather. Later this week, the kids will learn about major climate zones. Soon, they will get to become meteorologists as they make predictions about weather in an assigned area. I can't wait to see this!
Math
Don't forget, there is a math homelink that is sent home nightly Monday through Thursday. There are usually no more than 4 or 5 problems on these homelinks. It should not take your child more than a few minutes to complete these as it is a review of the content that was covered in class for the day. If it takes more than 10 minutes for your child to complete, please just have them stop and send me an email to let me know. Then I will pull them in a group during math workshop to review the lesson from the day before.
Vocabulary/Homework
You may have noticed that our homework packet has been shortened as of late. Thank goodness, right? :) I always send these home on Fridays with the exception of review weeks like last week. In that case, I will send it home on Mondays. We like to give kids/parents the flexibility to work on their homework the weekend before it's due if they so choose. If your household is anything like mine, this extra time is appreciated. My sons are both very involved in extra-curricular activities, so getting a jump start on homework is always a plus for us. If you're not busy during the week with after school activities, don't worry about the packet until Monday. Do what works best for your family. We send these packets home to provide extra practice on the skills for the week. As always, please email me if you have any concerns whatsoever. Like you, I want what's best for your child. If we work together, we can make this the best year yet for your kiddo!
