CHS Family Bulletin
January 7th, 2019
Enjoying the Break
I sincerely hope that you are having a wonderful break. I have been enjoying my time with my family and staying away from school as much as possible. Being that I am a 12 month employee I had to come in for a few days, but I also plan to use some vacation time to get away and go visit family in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area. That begins tomorrow. This will be the last Bulletin until January 14th. I hope you are resting and reading this at the end of the break and not in the middle.
I have been reminded recently in several instances that we constantly need to be graceful with others and with ourselves. We all deserve personal freedom from beliefs and agreements that we have made with ourselves and others that are creating limitation and unhappiness in our lives. It reminds me of the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz.
- "Be impeccable with your word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love..."
- "Don't make assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life..."
- "Don't take anything personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering..."
- "Always do your best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
Kindly,

Kudos
Thank you to Lisa Christon and her many helpers who hosted the end of the week Cookie-Palooza for staff. We gathered in the afternoon to enjoy some holiday cheer and fun activity. It was a wonderful event with lots of frivolity and laughter. Having a generous display of sweets and hot chocolate was a very welcome addition. We all stuffed our faces and there was plenty left over to share and take home. Thank you for your kind support and thoughtful organization.
Congratulations to all of the students who have been nominated for the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Future First Citizen award. Their hard work and dedication have led to this, and we are honored to have such wonderful students representing our city. Our Nominee for Future First Citizen from Churchill High School is Jack Blackburn. Congratulations on an honor well deserved.
Jill Reents & Robin Francisco - Thank you so much for your last minute help with after school announcements and letting me use some office assistants to get LEAP packets back to students. You two rock! - Mary Beth
Bill Krei - Thank you for letting me use your classroom for the LCC Placement testing. And thank you for pitching in and being so caring about our students' pathway in the Engineering Academy.
- Mary Beth
Helen Haberman - Recycling I just wanted to mention what a terrific service it is to have recycling at CHS. Your students are always polite when they enter my office to collect the recycling bin. Thank you for continuing this service I know it's a lot to manage.
Debbie Levy - I really appreciate your coming in to my Design Thinking Class today! After you left, students were really using the database and links to add to their brainstorms/info gathering!
I particularly enjoyed using the Educators Reference Complete database - the send to Google Drive function is super cool! I even discovered that after I moved the folder created by the database and then sent more stuff, the database found the folder where I moved it...- Don Squires
