Casual Custodians Needed

Do you want to work with the best team in the world? Of you course you do, who wouldn't. Good news! We are looking for casual custodians to help out Mr. Rye, Mrs. Samalla, and Mrs. Antazo when they need to be away. I hear it pays pretty good and the people you would work with are awesome. If you would like more information, please contact the school.

Alright 2022, You've Got One Job.

I was hoping that when I sat to write this we would be able to announce some loosening of restrictions, but alas, Omicron has made that not to be so. However, as we begin 2022 I think that we have a lot to be hopeful for. In a few weeks most, if not all, of our students will have the opportunity to be fully vaccinated and many adults will have had the opportunity to receive their booster shots. Although we see case numbers climbing, at the time of writing the hospitalization numbers are not (or at least not to the same degree).

Unfortunately, we have placed some restrictions on extracurricular and will increase our vigilance with our students, especially elementary, in terms of cohorting. This is not great, but our conversation has changed from fears for safety to concerns with isolating for periods of time. This isolation period will be alleviated once we (or our students) are fully vaccinated. To consider where we came from in March 2020, we have made great strides and that should be celebrated.

I think, like most of us, I have come to terms with the fact that COVID will be a part of our lives for a very long time, but seeing the progress we have made in how we handle it creates optimism in me. I applaud the work that has been done by all levels of governance, but most especially at the local levels in our communities, school divisions, and schools. I think that we have worked very hard to make things as normal as we could while first and foremostly protecting the safety of our people and most recently protecting our workforces to ensure we can stay open. This work has not been without sacrifice and I think that the last 2 years will go down in history, marking those who made sacrifices in the name of the greater good. I once again am humbled at how supportive our community (school and beyond) has been as we continue (and will continue) to navigate uncharted waters. I have asserted from the very beginning and continue to believe that Together, we got this!

Healthy Snack Ideas

We know that Dairy can be a critical part of a healthy diet. It can be difficult to find options for kids in the Dairy family. Laughing Cow Cheese and crackers (or Tostitos) has been a huge hit in our household. It comes in many flavors and even has non-dairy options for those that are sensitive. It is usually available in the deli section of the co-op.

Vaccine Requirement

As per NESD AP309, as of Dec 6, anyone entering the school, other than incidentally, will have to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test in the last 48h. This includes things such as volunteering for events, being a spectator at a sporting event or special event, or any other reason that would have you interacting with students or staff for 15 minutes or longer.

Incidental visits, such as dropping off or picking up students, dropping off lunches, etc do not require proof of vaccine or negative test. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Athletes of the Week

This week's Female Athlete of the Week is Hannah Samalla. Hannah is a member of our Sr. Girls Basketball team and is well known for her perfect execution of offense on the court. Hannah is quiet and has a great sense of humor.

This week's Male Athlete of the Week is Keith Stewart. Although he is in grade 12, this is Keith's first year on our Sr. Boys Basketball team. He has quickly made a name for him self being a reliable all-around player and a great contribution to the team.

Congratulations to both our athletes and thank you for being an awesome part of the Bears family!

Volunteer Spotlight

We put out the call for a Junior Boys Basketball coach and were very lucky to have Mr. Kent Ruether answer the call. Kent has developed a great Junior Boys program. Our athletes are very excited about practice and are very proud of all their victories, large and small. Thank you, Mr. Ruether, we are very honored to have you as part of our Bears family.

We Want Fans in the Stands

We are so happy to be able to invite fans to our home games once again this year. We ask that...

  • You only come if you are feeling well.
  • Provide proof of vaccination or a negative test (48h).
  • You wear a mask at all times when in the building
  • Sanitize your hands upon entering and frequently while in the building
  • Complete our contact tracing list upon entry
  • Show our Bears how awesome they are by cheering loudly (albeit through a mask).

New COVID Protocols

There has been some confusion regarding some of the new COVID protocols in the last few days. I wanted to take a moment to clarify some of the points. Please always refer to the most recent communication from NESD or PPCS.

If you receive a letter from the school or health explaining that your child has been close contact...

  • If your child is fully vaccinated (at least 2 weeks from their 2nd dose). They can attend school and all activities as long as they are symptom-free.
  • If your child is not or is unable to be fully vaccinated, they can attend school as long as they are symptom-free but must isolate from all extracurricular (school and non) activities for a period of 10 days from exposure.
  • We strongly recommend using rapid testing to monitor status, regardless of symptoms.
  • If your child becomes symptomatic, regardless fo vaccine status, you should contact 811 and follow their instructions.
