Weekly Update - Week of November 14, 2022

Halfway Done with First Semester!

Good afternoon, Blackhawks! As we move into the second half of the first semester, keep in mind that your students should be at least 50% complete with all of their courses, otherwise they are behind pace. It is also important to pay attention to their "current grade" listed in their snapshot, as this reflects to average quality of the work they are completing. In order to pass, this needs to be above 60%. There aren't a lot of updates this week, but do pay attention to the list of upcoming dates for any that may pertain to you. Have a great weekend and a great week this next week. As always, contact the office with any questions or concerns.

Upcoming OSTC Visit

For this year's 10th grade students, OSTC representatives will be presenting in person in the BHS performing arts center at 8:25am for about an hour on Friday, November 18. If you feel you may be interested in attending OSTC next year, this would be an important meeting to attend. Reach out to the office or Mr. Belluomo for additional information. Later in the month, on November 30, tours to the OSTC for interested students will begin.

NWEA Scores

Fall NWEA scores are in. This week they will get emailed or mailed home to students and parents. Remember, it is not unusual to experience a slight drop in scores between spring and fall testing, due in part to the summer hiatus. The goal is to see growth from fall to winter. If you have any question regarding your student's score, please contact the office.

Upcoming Dates and Events:

  • Monday, November 14 - Winter sports begin
  • Friday, November 18 - OSTC to visit BHS at 8:25am
  • November 23 - November 25 - Thanksgiving Break
  • Wednesday, November 30 - OSTC Tour for interested Sophomores

Reminder of Expectations

As we continue to progress through the year, here is what you can continue to expect:

  • Expect your student to work for roughly 45-60 minutes per day, per course
  • By now, you should have been reached out to by a counselor regarding your course progress. These will happen once a week. It is extremely important that you respond to communication. Please note that the student needs to respond and be in communication, not just the parent(s).
  • Your main point of contact for content specific questions is your course instructor. If you need help doing so, don't hesitate to reach out to us at 248-627-1820.

Conferences - Elementary and Secondary

Given the nature of the online program, there will not be a set conference day for online students at this time. At any time, you are able to setup a time to talk with your student's instructors. You can find their contact information on Edmentum's website once you are logged in. Again, if you need assistance in doing so, please contact the office at 248-627-1820.

Parent/Student Resources

Here you will find links to resources to help parents and students. Those of you who worked with Edmentum last year may have noticed some subtle changes to the system, as courses are now listed as being Apex courses. An overview of these changes and how to use the system as a parent can be found using the link to parent orientation presentations that is listed below.
