Kelly Anne Dolan Service Project Kick Off!

It may be the winter season to everyone else, but at Tamanend it is KAD Season. Last Friday, we kicked off our one and only school wide service learning project with an assembly. Students Melissa V., Chris S., Jeremy B., and Emily C. addressed their peers to explain what KAD Day is all about, and how helping others can be rewarding and fun.
Mrs. Peggy Dolan, founder and Executive Director of Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Foundation, helped us kick off our KAD schoolwide service project, The Foundation helps support families of chronically or terminally ill children by covering expenses not covered by insurance. Mrs. Dolan introduced us to one of the KADMF board members, Mrs. Dolores Vorters. Mrs. Vorters, who has known Mrs. Dolan for over 30 years in her capacity as a social worker for CHOP, talked about the importance of KAD as a resource for helping children and families in need.

At Tamenend, the KAD Service Project is a way for our students, our staff, and our community, to join Mrs. Dolan and everyone she works with, to families in need. It is a way to reach beyond ourselves, and come together, each in our own way, to make a big difference.

There are lots of ways to get involved. This Thursday after school, Moe's Southwest Grill will help us raise money for the Fund between the hours of 4 - 9 p.m. Come out to see our teachers roll burritos and serve up chips for KAD! To learn more about the Fund and how to get involved, please click on the link below to our TMS + KAD 2014 flyer.

What is Happening in the Library?

Last week in the Library Mrs. Holloway kicked off the "Pass It On" research project for the 7th grade Journey team. Students were introduced to their project by their English teachers, Ms. Vitacco, Ms. Kohler and Ms. Fiesser. All classes spent the week in the Library researching the person that they selected from the provided list. Their first day was spent learning about databases, websites, and Noodletools. The students were taught how to cite each one of the three sources required for the project. Please check out the project page from our Library Website. The rest of the week the students spent time researching, citing sources, and creating notecards. The 7th grade Legacy team is actively engaged in their "Pass It On" research project and used the computer lab to create outlines for their projects.

  • Teen Cooking Classes:

Teen Cuisine is an exciting 6 week program starting on January 23 at Tohickon Middle School. Students will learn how to eat healthfully, be active, and build personal skills to live well for a lifetime. The program will run on Thursday evenings from 6:15-8:00 PM.

Teen Now You're Cookin'! will run on Thursday evenings at Tohickon from 6:15-8:00 PM throughout the month of March. Students will learn to prepare and taste two new dishes during each class. A physical activity will also be part of the program.
