Peek At The Week
March 18, 2019
Team,
The end of Spring Break is upon us! Hope you have rested, filled your cup with lemonade (may be green today for St. Patrick's Day) and are ready to teach tomorrow morning. Students are coming and they will be full of all sorts of emotions. Remember to do a mini-reset, as students will have been living by 'house rules' as opposed to school rules for well over a week. A fun way to do this, might be to make a Kahoot and then have students model the correct behavior.
We will be having Data Talks for CBA #3, specifically concerning our target groups: Non-Continuously enrolled, Blue/Green Threshold Jumpers and where we are with reteaching the lowest TEKS. This week, ELAR will begin their Interventions. The schedule for this will be put out before Wednesday by Mrs. Richardson. We are supposed to have RtI grade level meetings this week but will move them to next week due to the amount of scheduling that has to take place in advance.
Monday, marks the beginning of the 4th 9 weeks. The end of the 3rd Nine Weeks Report cards go out this Friday. Students can gain or lose eligibility. Keep communicating with parents/guardians of students even though we are in our last nine weeks.
As always, Teach Happy!

Featured Topic: Human Literacy
A recent article in Education Week discusses the importance of "human literacy," or the ability to understand and apply important social-emotional skills to oneself and to others. The five factors of human literacy are as follows: empathy, self- control, integrity, embracing diversity, and grit.
Students should have the opportunity to examine and discuss these factors often, such as discussing how a literary character acts with integrity (or not). Educators should also be clear how these skills are important in life so students see the benefit of building them. For instance, students may create workplace or social scenarios in which these skills would come in handy, or come up with scenarios in which failure to apply these skills would create a bad situation.
Click on the link below if you would like to know more about this topic. It truly goes along with why we need to 'reset' and Social Emotional Learning for students of today!

Hall passes for students- anytime they leave your room.
Reset students as needed. Set the expectation, set the tone. They will meet your expectation IF they know you will hold them to it!
