It was a very full week even though it was shorter! Wow! We enjoyed our very first whole school assembly. Our very own Alex won student of the month for the 2nd grade. We are so proud of him!
We solidified our library time and it will be every Friday that is possible. I can send them to return, check out or exchange books anytime but Friday is our official day. Please help them to remember to send bring their books back.
The first spelling test will be this Friday. I will make adjustments as needed to the lists for them and even play around with the format to help them be the most successful. Please see the email I sent with the S'more link for details.
We all got on the computers, logged in and did our very first round of Istation. I will be sending home log in information for you too. I also showed them how to get on Dance Mat Typing. This is a free BBC program that helps them learn proper keyboarding skills. They can also use this at home. In addition, I am setting up an account with Epic Books that will allow the kids to listen and read along with a large amount of books online. Good stuff!
Swimming is in one week. I have attached an informational letter about our time at lessons. You can also follow the link I have on the calendar above and watch the videos the district provides. I will send home a hard copy of the letter and probably a detailed email later this week. A couple of things to note...they need a modest bathing suit, sandals/flip flops, a towel and a tote bag big enough to fit it all in. Please be sure you have or you purchase these items prior to 9/17.
I think that is all I have for now. I'll give a shout out if I forgot something. Have a great week!
April McGhee
WHAT WE'VE BEEN LEARNING
LANGUAGE ARTS-We did our beginning of the year writing sample this week on a time you felt special. We worked on making predictions as we read, using our schema, characters and setting. We read When I Was Young in the Mountains and learned that setting is not just place but also time.
SCIENCE-We began looking at attributes of matter around us. We are learning to use concise vocabulary to help us describe things. We will continue with matter this week too.
